I got my new tranny and new converter installed yesterday evening. Drove it a while last night and things seemed to be fine. I was out driving today and it started acting funny. It would go into 2nd hard and then immediately hit 3rd. This was during normal driving. My buddy who installed it for me said it sounded like maybe a piece of trash was in the vb. He said to let it hit 2nd and then stomp on it several times and this would probably break the trash loose and it would get caught by the filter. I get on the road by my house and stop. I pull off and let it hit 2nd and then hit it and the car just acts like it doesn't want to go anywhere. It then picks up and starts to go but very weakly. I then tryed it again and it came alive better but still felt weak. I turned around and came back up the road and stopped and decided to stall it. It started building boost 4,5,6,7,8,9lbs and I decided to turn it loose. It barely spun the tires and felt major weak. I've got BFG Drag radials but the stall is a 3200. I let off and started coasting and the car started making a ticking sound and cut off right as I pulled onto the road I live on. I cranked the car back up and drove to my house. The ticking/clunking sounds like a rod bearing to me. I'm not really sure. Could something in the tranny be making this type of noise? The noise gets louder as I raise the throttle which is what makes me think its a rod bearing. I don't know enough about trannys to make an educated guess but I wouldn't think the tranny would make this type of noise. Especially since it gets louder as the rpms rise. The guy who installed the tranny is a mechanic for GM and has been working on these cars for several years. He's going to come by tomorrow and listen to it. He will know for sure. I just thought I would ask on here to get some feedback. I was driving it today with the air on and finally felt like I was getting the car on the road to running right and then this happens. If its the motor then that is the end for me and these cars. I just can't put up with it anymore.:( Oh well. Thanks. Sorry so long.

As I suspected its the rod bearing. Who else has luck like this? I finallly get around to putting in the tranny and stall and the motor lets go the very next day. Well back to the drawing board.

Condolences....

We feel your pain....

I still have some reserves about how you described your problem. It sounds like you may have a converter problem too. If I can help let me know... ") BT

Damn,
Sorry to hear that familycar. Hopefully the crank is not scorched bad. If crank does not have to be turned I recommend Clevite 77 .001" over and cork oil pan gasket. Talk to Bob Stanley as he can get Rods Mains and new rear main seal for about ~60 bucks. Kirban sells the cork oil pan gasket. Lets hope the crank is not bad..??
