Speaking as a musician, in the long run they won't be able to do squat. All they are trying to do is keep their name in the spotlight. There are copywrite laws that handle this whole idea. As long as a certain percentage of notes are changed, it cannot be called the same tune. Metallica are morons. If they had a case, there are many more composers that used the E-F progression years before these clowns were a twinkle in their parent's eyes.

Exactly Joe...
I too am a musician and find it ridiclous that this would even merit any media coverage...other than the stupidity of it.

Utterly stupid...

first they kill napster, now they are claiming 2 musical notes!! That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope that is a fake article. If it is not, I think that the members of Aerosmith should sue Metallica for having long hair, you know because people would normally associate long hair with Aerosmith!:D :D

PS. If that is a real article, I will never buy nor listen to another metallica song - ever.

apparently it's real..it's even on Metallicas website.

From their website-
"We have elected to pursue legal action against Unfaith, a Canadian band using chords (E & F) traditionally associated with Metallica. We intend to agressively defend our rights in this matter to the fullest extent of the law. It's nothing personal against the band in question, as we intend to do the same to anyone else using the same chords in that order.

We're not saying we own the E chord, or even the F - that would be ridiculous. We're just saying that together, people have grown to associate them with our music, and their continued use in the same song causes confusion, deception and mistake in the minds of the public.

We are fighting this fight for our fans, who don't deserve to be subjected to this confusion... just as we appreciate their support through this."

Ban Metallica NOW

Looks like a fake. I can't find anything on either MTV or Metallica's website talking about it.

I bet that site is like "The Onion"

There was one link that went to a metallica look alike site. Someone even made the links go back to metallicas real site.

As much as I dislike Metallica after the Napster thing, this was pretty funny....

GOOD HOAX!
Wouldn't surprise me a bit if it was real though. It's about their speed.

yeah, this one has been all over the internet. Even though it's a hoax, it is quite fitting in that I wouldn't put it past Lars.

Kirk doesn't sound like he's practiced his instrument in years. Painful, ponderous weak-ass cheese.
