It's basically a way to intercool your car. It allows hotairs to keep the stock location of the turbo, yet have the same basic design of the 86-87 cars. You will need a modified plenum to work with the lower intake and a remote IAC, I have a block for the IAC I can include. If you also arent interested in intercooling, you can keep a hotair setting with the intake as well, this intake flows much better than stock.
Here's a picture of what the intercooled setup looks like:

yes, it would work. You can also modify an acufab plenum I have heard.
You can see some pics of what the full kit was here: Buick HotAir Conversion

However they no longer make the full kit.

In addition to the lower intake, it appears numerous parts are also necessary for the installation to go the intercooler route, correct? Also, any hood interference? I want to keep my 84 GN stock in appearance. Thanks for educating me about the JS intake.

Yes, you will need other parts for intercooling. There is no hood inerference, as for stock looking, I dont know if you mean totally stock. Basically, the picture I posted earlier is my engine which has the complete kit.

After viewing pictures of the installation of the JS kit on your Buick, I must say I"m very impressed with the professional appearance of the kit. Looks to be a well thought out design. Any idea what additional parts I would need to purchase and fabricate to intercool my 84 GN, if I purchased your JS lower intake?

Ya, I was really impressed with the way it looked as well, really brings the car alot closer to the 86/87s.
Here's a list of the things you need for a full intercooling conversion:
The modded lower intake
Modified plenum (stock modded or acufab)
86/87 Throttle Body
86/87 throttle body vacume block
86/87 TPS sensor
86/87 throttle body throttle, TV, and cruise control bracket (1 piece)
86/87 throttle cable
Modified intercooler
Piping

In addition, if you have not already converted to an electric fan setup and an 86/87 computer, you will have to do that as well.

Im pretty sure thats everything, minus some gaskets for the intake and plenum and such. Also, I cant remember if you HAVE to have an 86/87 IAC or not, but I went ahead and got one for my conversion.
