I just bought a 1984 T-type. The car has a brand new rebuild on both the engine and transmission both back to stock. The car needs some TLC body and interior wise but all in all a nice car. My question is this I want to make sure everything is fine with the car so I want to purchase a scanmaster. Will the scanmaster tell me o2 voltage and knock with the 84 computer? I know there are some limitations with what can be monitored and that is why some people swap in a 86-87 computer. I just do not know or can I find anything that says what is different. I just want to be able to make sure nothing is going wrong with the engine since it is a new rebuild. Any other tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to learning alot about the car and having a great time with it.

Thanks,

John..

First of all...Congrats on the car..im sure that you will have fun with it!

Installing the Scanmaster would force you to upgrade to the 86/87 Computer, but it is well worth it...it very hard to drive, and race these cars in the blind (with no scantool)

One of the things to do right away is to put in a New Walbro 340M Fuel Pump, and a Hot-wire kit..this should be done before you even THINK about putting the Go-pedal to the floor!

Another good Idea is to put in a boost gauge so that you can see what kinda boost your running..the stock gauges are often innacurate.

Well the dash guages on the car are not working at all so I am going to be getting all the guages I need together. I had already planned on the fuel pump and adjustable regulator. How hard is it to switch the computers? I thought the scanmaster would work with the 84 computer I take it that is wrong? And thanks I think I got a great deal on the car and I really enjoy them. As always any help or suggestions are appreciated.

The ECM conversion is plug and play....well almost. You have to add the wires for the MAT - which does require one wire to be spliced.

Scanmaster will not work on an 84-85 ECM - Turbolink will, but with limited data output.

I am glad to see the updgraded fuel pump is on your list - it is a must.

Nocooler,

Thanks for the links. Looks like I need to add this to the list of things to do. Also another question. Where can I find information on the I/C and intake you have listed in you signature? Thanks

John..
