First time there. Weather was great, but it was a gamble on both days I was there...ended up good -
Had a good time. Didn't race but I did enter my car in the car show (won nothing...guess my car sucks :D )
We left on Saturday morning because of impending bad weather...I don't know if it finally rained or not on Saturday but, I drove my car down...preferred to not have to drive home with it storming.

Met some people and vendors I wanted to meet and got to see some VERY FAST TRs...some nice cars in the show as well... Most impressive to me was seeing the tubbed full race cars run and THEN see some "stock" looking TRs run right with them (well almost, It was so close that I can't see a big benefit to going full race). It was also fun (amusing) to see the "lil 6s run faster than the Big block cars... badass - !

If you were there and i didn't get to say "Hey", I probably had no idea who you were...sorry but "HEY!" wish I could have met ya.

See You all next year!

Don't feel bad about the car show. Unless it's all stock or a GS you don't stand a chance! Those guys nit pick! The Carolinas chapter does the car show. They're all about cars that you can't enjoy (trailer queens or all out show cars).

Nah - I didn't care if I placed or not...That's not what it was all about for me. I went in expecting nothing and got exactly what I expected. I was there for the social aspect of it all (never been a trophy whore...usually threw them away).

The car got a TON of attention from people and even some offers to buy it (not for sale right now :D)

Mine was definitely different...seemed like alot of people coundn't perceive/recognize the extent of modifications done over all. As soon as they did, MAN did the questions fly.

Can't wait to get the new shortblock in...then I'll care about the engine compartment as well....

i got 3rd in highly modified gn and about went into shock. i thought the car show was all political. i really didn't even clean it up that much. i just entered because my buddies did and we wanted to all hang out over there. but somehow we ended up with 5 golf carts and ran laps around the circle track all morning.

Please......don't complain about the judging. No matter what, you got competent people judging the cars, from their perspective. So much better than participant judging, which they've had for years. Participants like.........."hey, I'm from Ohio, you're from Ohio, vote for me!" Pass that crap!!! Don't want that again.

Hey Scott (zam70), pleased to meet you and you have a beautiful, well done, TR. Hope you'll show it again next year. ;)

Not complaining at all -
note the sarcasm in my initial post ;)

like I said, I wasn't there to win anything...had a good time and that's what I went for!

Why didn't you enter Red Regal T

Nice to meet you. I think your car would have gotten plenty of attention. I just wish my paint job could look half as good as yours.

Russel (or Roussel as some would say)

Carolina Chapter does NOT judge the car show...we just classify the cars as to which category they go in...Chicago Chapter does the ACTUAL judging...just to set the record straight.

As far as the show, for what's it's worth, I placed 3rd in the "non-intercooled" class, and also had an AMAZING time, I guess b/c I was a first timer...Can't wait till next year!!!

:D

John, it was good to meet you down there! Always great to put a face with the names.

One thing I will say about the racing on Saturday, I was astonished at the "show" cars that couldn't get out of the 15.60's in the ¼ when they let them down the track including a few GNX's that ran. Not a pretty sight.

Yikes! I shouldn't do this but...

I'm going to fess up here and tell the world...I was one of those 'X's. I had my brandy new Michelins on the back w/ 300 miles on 'em. I didn't do a bunout and left at 1-2 psi. As soon as I gassed it, I was skating around. Got a stupendous 2.7 60' time.

After that I feathered the throttle to regain traction a couple times and just went for a sea cruise down the track. Boy...admitting to a terrible pass like that must be like 'coming out of the closet'. :p

My GN is neither a 'show car' or a 'race car', but it is a daily driver that usually does much better when called upon. In the words of the infamous Gomer Pyle, "Shame, Shame, Shame!" :D

Greg, if you would have stopped by my swap spot to say "HELLO", I might have given you some pointers. :p

Russell..........it was much cheaper not to show my car. ;)

I stopped by and chatted with you early Thursday morning. You showed Matt Z. and I your car and told us how you painted it like the GS you once had. Looks real sharp too!

Anyhow, I'm used to running on stickies at the track and knew the Michelins would be trouble. I'm sure there's a way to optimize tire pressure and utilize the air bags for better traction but there wasn't much at stake so I was just out havin' fun. :)

Nats Car Judging....

Here's the story - Chicagoland is in charge of finding judges. We sign up ANYONE - anyone that attends can volunteer to judge. There is a small "gift" for those that do help out. Then we try to match the judges up with their "specialty" of car - Big Blocks, turbo's, modified, Hybrids, etc. So if you know more about the modified turbo cars - and let's face it, who amongst us doesn't upgrade for their need for speed - then you will probably get that class, as long as your own car isn't in it. You cannot judge your own class. If we were only interested in stock cars, why would there be a separate "slightly" modified and separate "heavily" modified class?

We have a form that we use - each car starts with 100 points and has some taken off for any problem areas. I heard mention that this year was particularly hard - there were many ties, and cars had to be looked at a second time.

I also heard mention that it's fixed, and that Chicagoland only votes for their own members. Gee - is that why we had 5 Chicagoland members that placed out of 28 classes, with first, second and third prizes in most of the classes? I think not.

We had a lot of Indiana folks volunteer; also some from New Orleans, Florida, Minnesota - a lot of different states. The car owners were very co-operative, and have to be commended for how wonderful their cars looked. It can't be easy to get your cars to look this nice out of town.

We're not experts - we don't proclaim to be. We really do try to be fair. Please feel free to volunteer next year, if you'd like. We can always use the help.

I know you weren't complaining, Zam70 and some of the others. I just wanted to set the record straight. We have to pay to go to the Nats, just like everyone else, and we really do work hard at this. Thanks for putting your cars in the show.

ShariB - Mrs. TurboLoyd

:) :)

Don't worry about it Greg. We'll put those slicks, race chip, and some 116 octane and hit the Memphis Motorsports Park soon.

I bet we run very close times.

Thanks again for the assist on the TA tranny cooler today !

Your GNX'd sounded STRONG leaving my house today :D

I got back around 3pm today. Nice meeting everyone I talked to. I'll be back next year, this time with a working car so I can make some passes.

Man, I tried to get my car down the track with all the show cars, but couldn't get my sh!t together that quickly. Mine probably would have gone high 12's on my street radials. Man, sounds like I would have been the king of the hill in that crowd. :D
