So I need to have an exhaust shop adjust my ATR single shot system and weld up hangers for it. It's a long story but an exhaust shop has to do this, can't do it on my own.

Thing is, parts and labor are $200. Which is whatever, if its right. It came installed poorly on the car.

Do I dump $200 into it or remove it, sell it, and pick up a Pypes dual system?

Honestly, I like the look of the dual much better, could probably break even sellin the ATR system. But the ATR does sound great and looks solid too.

What to do?

Sounds like you already decided to go pypes duals, just need to pull the trigger.

I'd pull atr and go duals too.

The pypes system fits like shit and is china made low grade stainless. I wasnt impressed. Fix the ATR!!!!!

I know where you coming from. I too have been debating over switching my 3" ATR to a dual setup. But justifying the cost when there is nothing wrong with it, and just doing it for the looks swap.

I sell this system, have one on my own GN now for almost 4 years and still looks like new. http://buickgn.com/CatBack.htm

The Pypes system on my car fit pretty well...I went with DynoMax VT mufflers though. For the money the Pypes is a descent setup.

Single shot 3" here, didnt want the extra weight of duals & it probly wont make anymore power either!

marks ( gn1performance ) dual 3" is a copy of the old ATR dual with a muffler similar to the pitbull and has great sound . . but marks looks so much better than the ATR and the price is great considering what the atr cost back then

the pypes needs a little trim , is a copy of the hooker dual system but in all stainless ....but not as nice looking as marks and its only 2.5" pipes
i have a pypes on my 87ttop with the pro mufflers and my opinion is they are quiet, maybe a little too quite , they dont drone like the hooker aerochambers. if i had a choice id try their violator mufflers
if quiet is what you're after the pypes is a cheap dual setup

want some rumble go with marks or check out RJC

other than that there really isn't a lot of choices except the new magnaflow 2.5 dual catback but that i wouldn't even consider because the price is no where near the competition

Also the pypes is 409 stainless, not 304

Thanks for all the replies guys. It's a tough decision and I thinks two biggest factors are time (im driving it to Wildwood next weekend and need it foxed by then) and the fact that my wife would kill me if I keep dumping more into the car.

I hear you. I think for time constraints I'm gonna just fix the ATR system and go from there.

I really like that TR system, looks awesome also. But I do have exhaust that work now and due to only having 7 days I'd rather just fix it and be able to enjoy the car again.

Down the road ill probably spring for that TR system.

Thanks for the input guys.

Well, had the exhaust shop fix the system today. They did the following:

Welded two new hangers in and got rid of the sloppy rear hanger.
Welded test pipe w/ dump to my down pipe to keep entire system from twisting.
Welded muffler to mid pipe and rear exhaust sections over axel.

So basically, its 100% now. There is not one exhaust clamp used any more. Did a great job, moved the exhaust away from my rear pass spring so I can install my new airbag (exhaust melted old air bag and blew it out). Very happy with the work.

Looks good & definitely won't leak or move around with all the welded joints, but did you not consider band clamps at the mufflers & test pipe for sure? You'll never get your DP out now unless you cut your weld at the test pipe / DP connection.
Have used band clamps on my ATR system & the have held up well for many years , don't leak either.
Would have made it alot easier to take apart if you ever wanted to remove the system.

I have band clamps on my whole ATR system for over 10 years, with proper adjustment and tighten up clamps real good,i have never had any issues
