I was at my auto shop today, talking with another teacher, and a raspy, obnoxiously loud little import rolls in..... It was a former student of the teacher I replaced this year, and the student was looking for this old teacher....I had to disappoint him and tell him the teacher was gone, and then the kid saw my two TR's sitting in the garage.....Crap...
So...The annoying car matches the owner just right...He knew nothing about the GN's and TR's except the fact that they have turbo's and are black.....I explained that t-types can be had in any GM color of those years and such, and he was amazed...
Long story short, he tells me to come look at his car. It is a 1999 Mitsu Eclipse, and it has a worked over 2.0 NEON motor...Headers, MSD ignition and i believe DIS 4
, twin cam mopar performance, cold air K&N, no cat, and one lousy, obnoxious muffler....
So... I give the mark of approval to get him moving along, when all of a sudden he opens his trunk to reveal his next modification....a TA49 turbocharger!!!! It is a GN turbo, with the elbow still attached, with a recipt from precision!!!! It had a billet inlet bell, and a warranty tag or sumthing in a plastic baggie!!! I asked him what the hell he was doing with the turbo (not letting him no I wanted it really, really bad) and how much did he pay for it. He told me a friend of his owed him money, and instead of cash, gave him this!!!! So the kid wanted to know if I could chop up his header, and weld some form of flange to mate the turbo to his car.....
I laughed for a few seconds really hard, and told him I am not that great of a welder, and that he would do better by selling me his turbo for 500 and using that cash to advertise his car for sale! lol...As a joke of course.....
So, he wouldnt sell me the turbo, but he really, really wants it in his car bad!....I dont know how he is going to do it, but dammit, it is my mission to end up with that turbo, and not let it fall into the hands of another confused teen......
He got back on a tangent about my cars, again, and I told him that his turbo looked like mine, and that I would trade with him if he ever wanted to, and he took my phone number if he decided not to use that turbo! So....lol...I told him to sell his import to another teen for a lot of cash, and sink the proceeds into a tech school, or some form of formal training in the automotive field, as to better his knowledge, and hopefully get another confused child off the illegal drag strip streets of Newark, NJ.
In the meantime, I took a quick ride to an empty business park and showed the kid how to leave a real patch!!!! his cute little 20 footer looked like a baby next to my 60ft!!!! hahahaha
I didnt race him at all, but I did get to the business park faster than he did....lol
