Amazing - in that I did it myself and it still works!
No leaks, no runs, and no errors.
Also found that things get very angry when the alky runs out.
Are there any periodic checks to make in any of the connections?

Nothing really. If you want once a year remove the filter and clean it out in alcohol. Aside from that. Nope..
