Hello all, lot's of people recommend the Klotz Upper cylinder lube to be added to methanol in their alky systems (I have the old style, internal pump). But every shop I've talked to up here in Red Deer, AB Canada hasn't heard of it. Does anyone know what an alternative option would be for me?

Thanks

TJ

Did you give Mark a call at Campbell Automotive? He is an Alkycontrol dealer?

In Edmonton.

The Alkycontrol system doesnt use Klotz.

Contact Steve at SMC see if he knows someone near you that may carry it.

We use to use WD40 on those systems before the klotz was used.

I emailed SMC to see what he recommends, I'll post his reply for all to see in future searches.

Thanks all.

TJ

EDIT I contacted the previous owner of this car (A well known canuck on this board actually!) and he had a special pump put in place that is safe for methanol. SWEET!

Further update for those who still need the lube in Canada, go to www.klotzlube.com and look for the uplon fuel lube, and they will list Canadian dealers. Cam emailed me back, and for MY system, recommended 1 oz per gallon. (with his pump)

I dont believe any of the in-tank pumps were ever methanol compatible. When you talk with Steve, you may want to get clarification.

The externals yes. Internals no.. altho you will find those that say they've used methanol on their internal pumps with success.

Any pump that may have steel parts exposed to the alcohol will fail with certain types of methanols. Not all methanols are the same, and not all will work with an internal pump. Some methanols are more aggressive corrossion wise than others. The amount of water present in the alcohol can really speed the issue up.

Call Steve and get clarification, or stick to the denatured which was the recommended alcohol.. with Klotz

Ive always used Marvel Mystery oil and 100% denatured. This is on one of the very first SMC kits that were available. I think its been 5-6 years now with no issues. Someone please enlighten me if I need to be. Thanks.

Replacement for Uplon

My SMC kit has been used extensively (probably 50 gallons of methanol) since I purchased it in 2002 and I've always used the Uplon lube and it's been great. I'm finally running out of the first bottle. When picking up some race fuel for a friend I saw they had some VP Racing "M2 Methanol Upper Cylinder Lube". http://www.vpracingfuels.com/M2.html

I bought it to use instead of the Uplon and it is virtually clear instead of the Uplon so it makes it tough to tell which one of your alcohol bottles is pre-mixed (the Uplon always gave a pink tint). I'll let you guys know how it works. Judging by the label on the back of the bottle, recommended dosage is half as much as the Uplon.
