I just found out I have a torn medial meniscus. Has anyone here ever had that? If so, what is involved, how long is rehab......etc.

I had a torn medial meniscus and the surgery. If it is a small tear they grind that area down and it heals pretty quick. If it is a large tear they sew it together and it takes a lot longer to heal. Mine was small. I took a week off from work. I was able to everything I did before after about a month. The downside. I have scar tissue built up in the area and certain activities make it sore. The doctor said it wont hurt anything, it will just be sore. He said he could remove the scar tissue but it would probably come right back. If they remove some of the meniscus then your chances of developing arthritis will happen quicker in life. Any other questions, let me know. Good luck.

When mine was damaged, I had it scoped. The Dr. cut out the damaged cartiledge, than shaved it smooth - I have the video of the operation. I had the surgery on Thursday, took Friday off, and went back to work on Monday. It was really stiff, but I started rehab on Tuesday - 5 days after surgury. It felt Ok after 3 weeks and I went skiing with the Drs. permission only 31 days after the surgery. :) Just start rehabbing it right away and within 2 months you wont even remember which knee was worked on. Good Luck.

I had a rather large tear in my lateral meniscus two years ago. The doctor could not repair it so he removed about 80% of it and said I will most likely have arthritis in my early 30's. I used crutches for a little over a week until it felt good enough to walk on and it took about a month and a half from the operation until it felt pretty normal again but I didn't go through rehab. I lost some range of motion, it gets sore if I walk all day, and it aches when it rains. But obviously if he can repair yours it won't be nearly as bad as mine. Good luck.

Thanks boys. Hopefully, this won't bo too big of a deal.

As long as I can put my right foot to the floor in my TTA!!
