Knock counts in Direct Scan

In runs where my knock detector showed an event, Direct Scan will show timing being pulled and put back but the knock counter will often not change, what is causing this?

A simple analogy is that the esc counter is like a change counter that only reports dollars but not the cents, while those cents can cause retard.

Good explanation. I knew that was the case with the ALDL data, but I thought direct scan would be seeing the pulse accumulator values.
