Knock sensor question

If your knock sensor goes tits up, what does it do, become desensitized, or overly sensitized?

And is there a thread that details how to change one out?

The sensor is a piezo (sp) electronic unit that uses a crystal to create an electrical pulse. If it goes bad it won't do anything. It unscrews and when you put the new one it torque it to 15 ft lbs.

So when it's startin' to go tits up, it sends no signal at all then huh. So all this, what I believe to be false knock, doesn't have anything to do a fault knock sensor then huh.

It's pound feet. Foot pounds in energy, pound feet is rotational torque. I'm guessing it's pound inches. I was told "finger tight".

Doesn't detect knock as well. Knock sensors are very picky. Too tight and they will pick up your farts, covered in tape (other than the factory loctite looking stuff) they are no longer as sensitive. Some guys install them finger tight and "adjust" for knock but that seems a little dangerous. I go 14 inch pounds and won't even use an extension, universal or wobble. Just a socket on the torque wrench...

Isn't the sensor a microphone of sorts, and not required to pick up actual vibrations? I thought that it was vibrations that resulted in false knock.

The sensor has a crystal in it, that when struck, creates an electrical charge. Crystals can be tuned to specific frequencies for transmission or production of an electrical charge.

[EYE-OPENER]

So....I just put a new engine back in the car and it runs great!!! I did tighten to a little over the 14 ft lbs that I see everywhere I search. I get the audible knock beeping when half throttle (5-10 psi). A/f looks great and fuel pressure is dead on as well. What's this 14 inch pounds deal? That's a huge difference and makes sense as to why I'm getting that signal. So....is it 14 ft lbs or inch lbs? I know 14 ft lbs is a lot more than finger tight....
