anyone see that video of Michael Richards??
Holy cow!

Yeah and in my opinion he's going over and above reason in his efforts to apologize. Now, the blow hard that owns the Laugh Factory comedy club where the incident took place says that Richards should donate $500,000 to inner city poor for each time he used the 'N' word on stage.

Funny how idiots can dish out heckles like the two in the crowd but can't take it when it's directed back at them.

x2.

People are trying to call him a racist. He lost his cool and got angry. Big deal. He said what is commonly thought of as the worst thing you could call an African-American person. I think it is a double standard. Listen to any gansta rap recording or black comedian or just come to a place where a lot of mostly under educated blacks, male and/or female, socialize and you will hear the N word frequently. These artist and this life style is not condemned, it is accepted and even glorified. Let a caucasion say the word and he is portrayed as marching with a white robe, a burning cross, and a noose.

Saying the N word does not make Richards a racist anymore than saying Brad Pitt is a handsome guy but a bad actor makes you a homosexual and a professional movie critic. It was said in anger to try to hurt someone's feelings out of the fustration they caused him. That was all. Any public figure, even a third string actor such as Richards, is aware that anything they say can and will be used against them, if it makes for good headlines. He said it and is suffering the aftermath. I think his apology is sincere but when is a simple, I'm sorry, ever good enough for the media.

Everyone knows the word and out of pc-ness most people usually try too hard to keep from hurting someone's feelings, but imo, for these guys to go to a place where pc-ness is often thrown out of the window in the search of humor and then harass the person with the microphone they got what they deserved. Unfortunatly for Richards, the ability of the media to make the criminal the victim, means that while his career will probably suffer more than it already does, these guys will probably sue and then have fun wasting money that was hard earned by someone else's sweat simply because it was only the color of that someone's skin that made the words he used racial.

I have plenty of African american friends and some of them are better friends that some white people I know, won't mention any names ;), but honestly there are some African american's that plain out act and live the word word NiGG** and they do deserve to be called that by a white man. just my 2 cents.

The Whole Country Is A Double Standard When It Comes To Racial Comments! It's Pathetic!

Calling a black person a 'N is a lot more serious that your Brad Pitt reference. It is also a lot more serious than heckling a comedian at a club. Heckling happens at every comedy club and it doesn't result in a racist attack, there was no need for his racial outburst. I'm not saying that he a racist person because of his outburst, but I cannot see how you can justify his actions. It was obviously racially motivated. He said, and I quote, "50 years ago you would be hanging upside down from a tree with a fork in your ass". Now someone please explain to me, under what circumstances, let alone this one, that type of statement is acceptable and justifiable. I am Kramer fan myself, but I must admit that Michael Richards crossed the line completely with this one.

Did he cross the line, I believe he did. Any good comedian could have had a field day with the guy without calling him the "N" word. I also agree about the double standard. The bottom line is that it is a dumb azz word period regardless of who is using it. I was listening to the Steve Harvey morning show this morning and they were discussing this issue. Of all the people to have on there he had the Rev. Jesse Jackson on. He was describing how Mr. Richards appology wasn't good enough and went on to say how it should cost both he and those he is associated with monetarily. I was dumbfounded to say the least, after all is this the same azzhole who called NY "Himey Town". I could not believe the double standard from this low life shake down artist. What a dumb sh*t!!!

I'm with you. Long before Seinfeld, "Fridays" on ABC was one of my favorite shows so I like Michael Richard's humor.

But, if a standup comedian needs to resort to a racist rant when heckled, they either need to go do standup in the middle east or Asia or find a new line of work.

There may be a fine line between making fun of racist stereotypes and sounding like a racist, but Michael Richards sounded more like a racist than a comedian.

Listening to the tape, I don't think he was actually heckled until he started his rant. The people came in late and were noisy and Richards went after them. Almost seemed like an act that got out of hand.

I just wish he would stop apologizing already. Its getting ridiculous. If Seinfield wouldn't have dragged his butt on to Letterman to apologize this might not have blown up so much. Jerry would hate for anything to hurt those dvd sales....

Kramer looked like a whipped pup on Letterman. Seinfield must have chewed his butt good.

The media and the PC police have WAY overblown the issue. I think he really lost his cool and said some pretty pathetic things, and it sounds like he has some racial and anger problems he'll need to get worked out. Frankly I'm sick of hearing about it. It's unfortunate that he lashed out like that. As for all the hype, the appologies, calls for him to donate money, etc, etc, etc, spare me. He's got a lot of introspection to do, him and Mr. Gibson, both. I think the country has better things to focus on. We do have a war going, after all. :(

Yep....

I am a HUGE Seinfeld fan, still am, years after the reruns are still showing...but and I heard the Steve Harvey show too, he actually brought up a real good point. The fact of the matter, in their profession, is that when you are OFF doing standup comedy....expect the worst...and receive the worst. These were customers who deserved their monies worth didn't get it, and as a result in a very public forum, in an environment that was supposed to be humorous, decided to create their own humor, which sad to say was not very funny....

Do I think he is a full-blooded racist...no I don't.

Do I think he crossed the line?? Yes I do...

Do I think he was having an extremely bad night, and said some things out of anger? Absolutely?

Do I think this was blown out of proportion...anytime J.J. is involved to a certain degree its ALREADY out of proportion....

Fact of the matter, is that no matter where you are, you must be careful of the things that you say even out of anger...

It seems out of anger, this is truly where many of our skeletons decide to step out of the closets for a bit.....

Validation? I'm black too:smile:

He made a very big mistake, lost his temper, and pretty much just acted like the old "Kramer" from Seinfeld. That was his gig, acting like a lunatic.

I thought it was kind of funny, until I realized he was truly angry and walked off the stage. I first kind of thought it was part of his act, until he started getting pretty nasty, and said something about hanging upside down, etc.

Everyone loses their kool sometimes. He should be sorry, and needs to address it by some sort of act of kindness towards the people that were there that day in the audience. And it's not with $500,000 dollars, or big monetary gifts. That's just silly, and also a crime as well. Money can't buy forgiveness, true change and respect.

Perhaps he should take them out to dinner, personally apologize to them directly, and maybe give them a small gift personally, to find closure in the whole situation. I know that's what I would do. I would probably offer them some weed, and a 40oz Colt 45 or Mad Dog, to help make them happy. ;)
I'm kidding.... see what you're thinking!

He has gone to the Black Community for help, and I truly hope and pray for him.

What is the difference in a French American, Chinese American, Mexican American, African American, etc, etc, etc........If you were blessed to be born in America you are, by birth right, an American. We do not discriminate, by law, the ethnicity of a people. I am sick to death of the Black people of this great nation discriminating themselves by proclaiming themselves to be African Americans......My god, if you aren't satifisied with being an American, then go back to the country of your roots.........Political correctness aside, when is this madness going to end?????????

Black people identifying themsleves as African American does not have anything to do with this discussion at all. In this incident they were discrimated against because of their skin color and nothing more. So the fact that any person, whether they are Mexican American, Irish American, African American etc etc, chooses to identify with their ethnicity, shouldnt have anything to do with being discrimanted against. This country was built by immigrants. So please, entertain us all and explain what your comment had to do with anything........

Who Cares! He Was A Nobody Before And He Will Be A Nobody After This Blows Over. Why Is Jerry Sinfield Appologizing For Him? What Is He His Father....? Who Cares!

Stupidity

That whole sit was said in anger. But if Chris Rock was up there and said ohh look at these nigg*s it would be fine. tO me a word has a meaning no matter who says it. Now f u means f u. Nigg* has been used to mean ignorance. And thats all it means.. People say cracker/honkey/hill billy/cuzin f-ers etc.... but white people dont cry and scream... its just words. Do you really think these people were that hurt??? If they were the money wouldnt be an issue.. Some things never make sense. Dont get me wrong there are some racist people in this world but sometimes stereo types are true... If I live in aneighborhood w my kids that has mostly children in it and an older White male moves in by himself next door I am going to think hes a kid toucher... Simply by the fact that most older White males are kid touchers...Listen boys M not a racist I hate everyone.....
