agreed.
x2.
People are trying to call him a racist. He lost his cool and got angry. Big deal. He said what is commonly thought of as the worst thing you could call an African-American person. I think it is a double standard. Listen to any gansta rap recording or black comedian or just come to a place where a lot of mostly under educated blacks, male and/or female, socialize and you will hear the N word frequently. These artist and this life style is not condemned, it is accepted and even glorified. Let a caucasion say the word and he is portrayed as marching with a white robe, a burning cross, and a noose.
Saying the N word does not make Richards a racist anymore than saying Brad Pitt is a handsome guy but a bad actor makes you a homosexual and a professional movie critic. It was said in anger to try to hurt someone's feelings out of the fustration they caused him. That was all. Any public figure, even a third string actor such as Richards, is aware that anything they say can and will be used against them, if it makes for good headlines. He said it and is suffering the aftermath. I think his apology is sincere but when is a simple, I'm sorry, ever good enough for the media.
Everyone knows the word and out of pc-ness most people usually try too hard to keep from hurting someone's feelings, but imo, for these guys to go to a place where pc-ness is often thrown out of the window in the search of humor and then harass the person with the microphone they got what they deserved. Unfortunatly for Richards, the ability of the media to make the criminal the victim, means that while his career will probably suffer more than it already does, these guys will probably sue and then have fun wasting money that was hard earned by someone else's sweat simply because it was only the color of that someone's skin that made the words he used racial.
Calling a black person a 'N is a lot more serious that your Brad Pitt reference. It is also a lot more serious than heckling a comedian at a club. Heckling happens at every comedy club and it doesn't result in a racist attack, there was no need for his racial outburst. I'm not saying that he a racist person because of his outburst, but I cannot see how you can justify his actions. It was obviously racially motivated. He said, and I quote, "50 years ago you would be hanging upside down from a tree with a fork in your ass". Now someone please explain to me, under what circumstances, let alone this one, that type of statement is acceptable and justifiable. I am Kramer fan myself, but I must admit that Michael Richards crossed the line completely with this one.
What is the difference in a Chinese American, Mexican American, African American, etc, etc, etc........If you were blessed to be born in America you are, by birth right, an American. We do not discriminate, by law, the ethnicity of a people. I am sick to death of the Black people of this great nation discriminating themselves by proclaiming themselves to be African Americans......My god, if you aren't satifisied with being an American, then go back to the country of your roots.........Political correctness aside, when is this madness going to end?????????
