laptop for my buick

I just purchased my 87 turbo buick a couple of weeks ago and I had seen somewhere on the net that you can hook up a laptop to your car and get some dialed in info about the engine.so I guess my question is.. where can I find this software and what kind of adapter do I need to actually hook it up. thanks!
