Tried those twice, leaked both times. Try the cork or black fiberish rubber ones

The oil pan gasket is the same one I'm using now. The valve cover gaskets I haven't used. I prefer cork for those....no real reason.

who makes the black rubber ones squidd?

FELPRO, found at Autozone:

Felpro/Valve Cover Gasket (VS50156R) | 1987 Buick Regal 6 Cylinders 7 3.8L SFI OHV Turbo | AutoZone.com

It says "rubber" but it is more of a fiber/rubber mix. I know the blue ones that fc227 quoted above are made of a super thin metal with a tiny amount of blue rubber "ribs" to seal. I had horrible luck with them, and have read of many more people having issues with them. Thick cork ones from a vendor would be best, but these black rubber/fiber/ synthetic ones are pretty good too.

Valve cover gaskets? Go CORK!!

Same with oil pan!!!!!

Looks like it is weeping around the back bolt on the drivers side of the pan. snugged them down a few weeks back , must split the gasket.

Take a vacation day Friday to do it , while we have a stretch of good weather. Not looking forward to this:(

Well, drained the pan, removed cross over , undid all 14 bolts (1979 block). Pan will not bulge. Some dope (me) put peratex on both side of the gasket so...

I do not see any splits where I removed the bolts and got a close look , So instead of warping the pan tiring to pry it off I am going to put sealer on the bolt head and retorqe and start it up and see if it leaks.

give the pan a few good hard whacks with a rubber hammer. it's made out of steel, so as long as you keep your hits close to the corners you won't hurt it no matter how hard you hit it.
