I know that in 1984 only 2000 Grand Nationals were produced. My question is how can I find out how many of the 2000 were T-Tops? I know Buick did not keep great records on this but if anyone could tell me any info I would appreciate it. I would like to know what number my car is of the 2000.

Thanks for looking.

I think that most of the T top regals that were built were 84s it seems everytime someone mentions that a regal has t tops it is an 84 gn or not

Added this to the sticky.:cool:

You had to ask. I don't know if you have seen my other threads on guesstimates but I'll take one on astroroof 84 GNs. OK I have a vast library of SPID labels I've collected over the years. By adding up the options I'm able to guess assuming everything is proportional. Here it goes. I have 9 SPID labels for 84 WE2 GNs and 5 for the W11 T-Type. CC1 is T-top and CF5 is Astroroof. It goes as follows
495542=no
500827=no
550015=CC1
574101=no
578019=no
591055=CC1
606311=CF5
612316=CF5
619232=CF5
According to my info that means 33.33% are Astroroofs and 22.22% are T-tops. Based on this we can guess that there could have been at least 667 GNs with the Astroroof option. BTW I found it strange that the last 3 VINs I had on file all had the Astroroof.
Here are the 84 T-Type numbers.
476808=no. Black car without the L-S seats
492317=no. WH1 car without L-S seats
571434=no. WH1 car without L-S seats
597453=CC1. WH1 car without L-S seats
611909=no. Brown car without L-S seats.
That means that 20% have T-tops with no astroroof which would mean that a T-Type with Astroroof and the L-S seats would be even rarer. The fact that 60% of the T-Types were also WH1 cars doesn't surprise me. Out of 3,400 T-Types more than 1,000 had the WH1 option.

T tops were more popular...

Only a handful of the '84 GNs received the Astro roof option because it was a pricey addition. The stats provided above do not match my observations of the year group.

I have seen very few moonroof 1984 GN's. Mine is the most loaded '84 GN thus far (with 96 build codes).

The T-top cars are more common in my view. Again; I am going on observation of this year group as a fan/owner since 1996.

Buick didn't track the *VIN's... in their eyes they were all T-types. They never thought or dreamed that they would one day be collected.

*For the T-type owners.... So if you elected to find all the required parts you could realistically convert your T-type to a GN... and only someone like myself would pass on it. It will be real hard to duplicate the documentation and reflect how it is laid out on the trunk lid piece. '84 GN owners know what I am talking about...:biggrin:

Thanks for the info, At least I know my car is 1 of 2000 . Does anyone know how many 84's are still running? I know a lot of the time when I see a GN being sold for parts it's an 84. Thanks again

I dunno, I heard somewhere around 500ish. I dont remember where I read it. But at least we of the two of us! Mines still stock too.

I am betting under 500 of them exist in whole... and the rest are wrapped around telephone poles, hit by passenger vans, or silently rusting in someone's field or auto yard.

Some interesting stories have been shared on the board on how some of the guys came across their car.

I found mine sitting under a tree , The ladies husband had died three years earlier so she parked it outside to make room in the garage

my 84 t-type has the t- tops and the vinyl roof
