I want a Dodge cummin's 3/4 ton. Not sure if I want an auto or stick. What should I look for. Doin some research. Looking to spend under 20k. And it has to be black, diesel, and 4x4.

Extended or quad cab a must. Need room for my son. Long or short bed doesn't matter.

I know they make 5 and 6 speed's. Which are better?

How well will an auto hold up?

Are the 24 valve motor's that much better than 12v motor's??

Something about a turbo 6 that drew me to the dodge's. I don't know where it came from??

You have seen to many of those turbo trucks at new england dragway?

Could that be the appeal?

Why a truck?? Do you actually need one, or is it cool to you?

I need a truck. I'm a plumber and i'm getting rid of my van for a truck. I carry alot of tool's and stock. I guess I don't really need a 3/4 ton but I want a diesel.

Good choice on the Dodge. The 12 valve is more durable and simpler than the 24 valve. I had a 97 with the 12 valve and it was bullet proof. The downside is that it is not as powerful or efficient as the 24 valve. Also the early automatics are a weak link. The upside is that they are impossible to kill and there is very little to go wrong with them. They can be made to perform good, but it is not as easy as the electronic controlled motors. Starting in 98.5, Dodge went to the 24 valve electronic controlled. They are quieter and more powerful off the showroom floor than the 12vs. They are easy to hotrod with one of the performance modules, and there is plenty of aftermarket for them. They are not as tough as the 12 valves, but certainly still a good engine. I have a 03 quad cab 4wd long bed 1 ton dual rear wheel diesel with the 6 speed and I love it. I average 20 mpg with a combination of city and highway driving. I have gotten as good as 22mpg driving 60mph unloaded, and as bad as 17mpg pulling a car trailer with a Buick on it running 70-75.

I want an 03 because of the exterior design is a little better than that of the previous years.

How do you like the 6 speed. And is it that much better than the 5 speed??
