Why is it expensive aftermarket stereos don't remember anything after even a momentary loss of battery power. At least mine never have. Is there an easy way to combat this problem? I have at least 20 settings to make in my head unit each time I disconnect the battery, it really is a huge pain in the ass.

I hear ya man, I go through the same crap. I know someone makes a 9 volt battery adapter plug that goes into your cig lighter with a 9 volt batt attached and when you remove the Batt, it saves all your settings........I've seen it in a few differnt books, but I never got it...go figure...

Go to Radio shack and pick up a cig lighter adapter plug, find the cheapest one they have. Strip the ends of it off and connect it to a 9V battery. I would imagine the center part is the + terminal, but I don't know for certain.
