Low MAF readings at WOT...

Today I took my car for a few blasts down the highway before I head off to college for the semester. I upped the fuel pressure from 41 to 45 to start tuning again fot this much cooler weather and I noticed that at WOT my MAF readings are steady around 178-180. I did notice it hit 205 ONCE but I am worried that I am not getting enough air. I knwo it should peg at 255 everytime. This was a blast from 35 to around 90 and it stayed there the whole time I had 18 lbs of boost( a bit high) and O2s were around 790 and 2.1 degrees of knock both at 90 when I let off. I do have a 14 inch K&N from the ATR cold air kit (w/o the plastic case) Can anyone help me fix this problem? I do feel this is hurting my performance. Thanks for the help!

There are a few different things that can be responsible for low MAF readings at WOT. Is your 14" K&N in the engine compartment? Going to a 'Cold-Air Kit' was the key to me being able to max out the MAF readings at 255. If you aren't running this type of set-up I would really encourage you to go this route. Mark Heuffman makes a beauty kit and there are several other kits avail. If you do in fact have a proper cold air kit, then closely look at your MAF itself...be certain that it hasn't been replaced with one that has an hour-glass shape to it. One of our guys got stung with one of these. They're actually for a 3.0 liter engine and with some of the Parts help still on the learning curve, they're still all the same to them. The other option to try which is easier yet, is to swap the MAF with a buddy's that you know is fully functional and see what your results are.
