I just wanted to get a little feed back on a car I am looking at. It seemed kind of odd to me that this guy ordered this car this way. This car is an 87 Turbo T Grey w/blackout and the only option it has is power windows and air. No tilt or cruise or Pl ect. He even ordered the car with concert sound but no cassette player.
Also he had the powermaster replaced with a vacuum setup. I have read about people doing this swap, is there any problems with this? Thanks

87 WE4
86 GN

There is no problems with a vac. brake conversion. My 87 T has it and it stops real nice. My 83 T still has the powercrapper on it and I hate it. If the car stalls the brakes almost completely go out.

I second that. I used RedRegalT's kit to swap my GN to vacuum brakes. Awesome difference. My T-type has powermaster, I will be swapping soon. The difference is night and day. Not to mention the SICK feeling you get when that red "BRAKE" light comes on.

Some people say vacuum boosters don't work on turbo charged engines. But rarely if ever do you try to stop under boost- you lift throttle, then brake, the engine is pulling vacuum. Just make sure it has a check valve between the vacuum line and booster- pushing boost into the booster can ruin the booster pretty quick.

Even if the engine quits, the vacuum setup stops better, because of the difference in the master cylinder and pedal. You have more manual leverage.

Another plus- parts for a vacuum system are far cheaper.

If the booster is holding vacuum like it should, then it should stop/work under any circumstance, even under boost. Thats the vacuum boosters job is to hold the vacuum even though vacuum is not being applied 100% of the time. This is the reason for the check valve and to save the booster from boost psi.
Motors with large cams have the same issue if the vacuum booster isn't holding 100% like it should.

for some reason you tend to see more odd-ball combos for 1987 than any other years. could be because the dealers knew they were going to end and they took whatever they could get (just a theory). the vacuum brakes should be just fine: have heard some complaints about how much boost they can hold from a stand still, but for street use it's the way to go.
