I want to lower my car. I want to lower the back 1". Then I want to cut the front springs to match the back. I know Eibach sells the complete set. I really don't want to buy the complete set for $260.00 when Im not going to use the front springs. Is there a rear spring for our cars that will lower the back 1" or close to it.
I know someone had a chart on here that listed all the springs for our cars. Does anyone have that chart? Does somebody know who sells just the rear lowering springs?

Thanks in advance

Do you still have the original rear springs in the car?why I was asking is usually with those still in the car the rear can sag quite a bit.I just replaced mine with rear springs from a Cutlass v8.It raised my car 1" in back.I got some old saggy ones here.

I replaced the rear springs when I bought the car about 5 years ago. I can't remember what I put in there. Mood Something???

I might want to get those old saggy springs from ya. Do you know what the height of the car was with the old springs in there?

Thanks

Come on guys,
Someone had a chart or web site that had all the spring sizes and heights. I need it.

Thanks

Chris,
Try the moog 5385. I dont know how much lower it is ,but in my car they are lower than the rear old stockers. I still wanna go lower. The only other option is to go with a open top, pig tail bottom spring and cut it to suit ur needs. I believe the Moog cc635 was mentioned in the Monte board sping chart u mentioned to fit this requirement.

HTH;)

I used springs that fit 79-up Mustangs. Ended up cutting a coil and a half to get the height I needed. Cheap, $45 a pair. I have heard of some guys using springs off of F-bodies.

Moog Springs

Ok this is what I found out from moog. I called there Factory.

The stock rear spring moog#5379 height is 14.786. I then asked moog what is a replacement spring that is close to a 1" drop from the #5379. I have two options:

#6319 3/4" drop from the 5379
& or
#5401 which is a 1-1/4" drop from the 5379.

I will buy one set of these springs ( not sure yet ) and cut my front ones to match. Now I don't have to spend $260.00 on a set of springs only $60-$80. Im not sure how much the 6319 or 5401 cost.

I will let everyone know how it turns out.

Thanks

I called Moog about a year ago, and they said that the 5385 was the lowest for the rear.

FWIW, I did NOT believe the guy. I think he was in a pissy mood or something.

Anyway, they did lower it about 1 - 1 1/2. I need to go lower though...bad news is they are pigtailed and I hear they are a bitch to cut...

From experience Moogs are ususally in the 35.00-65.00 range. I believe my 5385 were about 50.00. The stockers were about 42.00.

Let us know how it works out.

I actually got my rear springs from Summit. They were pretty cheap from Bell Tech. But the other thing I found was you will need shocks to go with the springs. Otherwise if I hit a good bump at speed and unsprung the rear, the springs could fly out REAL easy. The lowered shocks keep the rear from "un-springing" that much. I did the whole lowering thing with the drop spindles in front as well. I wish I thought about using the B-body spindles instead so I could go with bigger brakes, but oh, well..... :(

Derrick

The only issue with the bell tech springs is that the air bags wont it in them. The spring is a lot narrower.

Sorry it took so long to reply but I had to get to where my car is being stored to get a measurement. And with old age setting in C.R.S. I measured from the ground up to wheel well molding at 12 oclock (center of wheel well)with the old saggy springs it was 26 1/2" .With my new springs its 27 1/2".Hope I'm not to late.

Chris---I just finished lowering my GN. This vehicle is strickly weekend only, drag strip 2-3 times a yr, <2000 miles a yr. I also didn't want to spend upwards of $200.00 for Eibachs only to have to cut them also. I like them low---but not ricer stupid low. My GN started out at 27.5" in the rear and 27" up front with bfg dr's 275/50 on the back and bfg215/65 on front on the factory wheels. I took you guys advice and bought a set of springs off a late 80's plain jane Camaro($30.00) local junk yard(already pulled)--scored a set of aluminum drums while there for $40.00-pulled. In a nutshell I wound up cutting a little at a time took 3 cuts to get the back where I wanted it(total 2.25 coils off the Camaro springs with the bigass rubber spacer installed). I then took 1.25 coils off the front stockers. In retrospect 1.0 coil removed would have been sufficent. After 200 miles it now sits at 24.5 in the front and 25.25 rear. It still has a little of the old Buick ride--soft. Certainally not stiff or bouncy. If you had tons of disposable income I'm sure there are better ways to get them down this low or lower, but this worked good for me and my situation. Hope this helps.....Gerry

Thanks Gary,
That is some good info. I bought a set of moog 5385 springs that another board member recommened. Im getting my frame notched right now and haven't had a chance to install them yet. Im going to install the 5385 and cut the front to fit. I will let everyone know how the job turns out.

Thanks agian,

Chris,
I know this thread is older then dirt, but did you ever get a chance to install those 5385's? If so, how did they work for you?

Thx,

Yes, I did install the springs. They worked real well. From the stock height they lowered the car 3/4". I cut the front springs to match. I have about $75.00 invested in droping the car. Not bad!!!

Hope that helps

Thanks for the update Chris. One last question......how does the spring rate feel? Too stiff, too soft......or about right. I think I may order up some of these too.

Thanks again,
