Lucky Me...need Brake Help

Gassed up & cleaned up GN Fri night & all working fine in prep for nice car show Sat some 40 mi away. Leaving garage Sat. morning the brake pedal was very hard but no brakes, rats!,all that work & no takey GN to show. Lucky me didn't happen out on infamous US-99.
Few yrs ago purchased a rebuilt unit at good price, but really don't want to replace whole system if don't have to. Would appreciate info as to what usually causes the sudden hard pedal (guess happened while sitting overnight?) & what part do I fix or replace? I'm way out here in Fresno with no support (other than you folks), sometimes have to drag it to Pappa Lou for upgrades, etc. Appreciate any divine guidance.

Most likely the accumulator ball. Very common failure with the symptoms you describe.

I no brake for GN's.

Thanks Williams. Is there a process to replace it (I have another)?, surely not as easy as to simply screw on another. &/or a process to repair the original?

If you lived closer, I'd let you borrow one of my spare Acumulator balls to be sure.

Do you hear the PM motor run when you turn on the ignition?
If not...the switch on the back of the PM can also cause this...try giving the switch a couple light smacks with the handle of a screw driver to see if it might be stuck and not turning the motor on, and therefore not pumping up the accumulator.

Worst case...your PM is shot....good luck...no one makes parts any more and the "rebuilt" ones are a crap shoot....literally...

Dear Ray, Accumulator balls are certainly a problem, but in your case the first thing I would check is for a blown fuse. If that's the case the motor is drawing a lot of amps & probably bad. If after replacing the fuse the motor continues to run for longer than 15 seconds & the brake light ( assuming it works ) wont go out. Start looking for the reason why. Accumulator ball, switch or connection bad, Master cly cups bypassing fluid. Cooling fan on same circuit & possibly bad. If you installed dual fans with out added relays to protect circuit it too will blow that fuse. There is a lot of info available online to assist you in diagnosing this problem. If all else fails may I suggest you call me.
