manufacturer's mark on 30 spline carrier???

Gentleman, a friend gave me a Gm 30 spline carrier. How would I I.D. this unit? Easy to count splines,but not sure if stamped numbers mean anything... this will be my first rear conversion.. Running a stock "open" carrier now with 3.42 gears.. Can't seem to get photos uploaded.. any help is very much appreciated.. Joe

looks like a unit from a truck- "gov loc", i think they were called.
if that's what it is, it's worth whatever the local scrap place will give you for it.

I damn sure wouldnt waste money finding axles to fit that thing. If it was 28 spline it MIGHT be worth the effort to put it in there if it was free. But otherwise I'd iron pile it.
