Ahhh yes, the skater days.......I was at my g/f's little brothers b day party today, I bought him a skateboard. Made me remember when that was all that mattered, skatin' and rockin' out to some Metallica. To be that easily satisfied again would be awesome.

Sandbagger, if you think Lars sucks, try playing drums sometime. Try to maintain that fast tempo for 4 minutes, you'll pass out. If you don't play an instrument, you may have a hard time appreciating how difficult it can be at times. So your family can play bass, but that doesn't make you a musical wizard. Hell, both my parents have PhD's, but I'm not gifted in their fields of study. Speed metal is very hard to play, don't knock it untill you try it. A double-bass drum set is a lot of physical work, on top of trying to maintain a rythm.

I personally hate almost everything after the black album, its too "mainstream" and soft. They got away from their roots. Their older stuff will always be a benchmark, with other bands always being compared to it.

I disagree w/ kirk being the best musician. Have you ever tried to play the stuff that James does?....

yes, and i can play all of it, including his solos. kirks stuff is very technically difficult. i will say that i cannot sing on top, but its more of the fact that i cant sing period. im not taking away from james, i like his stuff too, but kirk was trained by one of the best guitar players in rock music, Joe Satriani. he is awesome.

lars only plays that fast stuff on a few songs. some stuff is tricky, but nothing he writes is difficult to figure out.(im a drummer) i can think of many drummers that are better than him, namely Vinny Paul of Pantera. there are other metal players that are also better, Dave Lombardo, who i believe is Megadeth's current drummer, and their former drummer, Nick Menza. Lets not forget Raymond Herrera from Fear Factory, and Joey Jordison from Slipknot. and thats just the mainstream stuff...

Don't try to narrow it to 1

I'd say Creeping Death is my favorite, but I'm not even gonna try to narrow it to one song.....or even album for that matter.

Everything they put out up until Load was sweet.

After Load came out, they've done nothing but go downhill.

Favorite song, the four horsemen. The second solo rules.

Sandbagger, I appreciate what you are trying to say about The Who, they are my favorite band of all time, thanks to Quadrophenia mostly, for songs like Sea and Sand, Dr. Jimmy, and 5:15, but mentioning it on a Metallica Thread is a bad idea. I personally don't like Metallica at all, I prefer Alice in Chains and Soundgarden. Don't take any Who criticism personally.:)

As far as drums and bass goes.. anyone ever hear of RUSH??? The only good thing to come from canada next to hockey... Geddy Lee.. plays a sick bass and a keyboard.. same time.... Drums NEIL PERT.. if anyone has everseen him play.. the biggest drum set in the world.. he is unhuman... the guitarist Liefson is good too.. not the best.. they may not be a great hard rock band or racing music.. but incredible for a 3 piece.. i suggest them to all

geddy, alex, and neil are all bad ass. alex is probably the most underated guitar player there is. not the best but he is definately up there. :D

Did he say "RUSH"? Not saying they aren't talented musicians, but COME ON! Rush?!?! No way you should be talking about Metallica and get on the subject of Rush. Its like thinking about doing laundry while racing down the quarter.

I do agree Vinny Paul rocks!

yea, rush has nothing to do with metallica, different bird alltogether. you cant compare pink floyd to black sabbath(except for maybe the drug use), and you certainly cant compare phish to cannibal corpse, so you probably shouldnt compare metallica to rush. neil peart would crush lars, but they appeal to a totally different genre.

What did I start here? Thanks for all the replies. I will say this about Metallica. Growing up it was considered dirtbag music, I didn't pay much attention to it. When they had a cd come out in 95 or so, I think it was load, I listened to them then, and then a few years after that I listened to the black album, which I thought was good. A friend on mine downloaded "one" and when I heard it, I thought it was really good music. Sounding complex, and strong, but all the while controlled and timed perfect.

yeah, welcome to speed metal and thrash:).nuts on,tight-ass display of musicianship and songwriting.

considered to be"dirtbag music" by the vanilla ice/eminem/n'sync(pick your era) listening douchebags for as long as i can remember.

i just resign myself to knowing that they wouldn't know talent if it ran over them driving a dumptruck, and the band they are calling "genius" today will be the one they deny ever listening to in two years:rolleyes: .

I know they are two totaly different genres but... if you talk about rush like doing laundry and racing i suggest you listen to moving pictures.... quite possibly the best rock album ever.... besides the fact... the song red barchetta aplies to all of us who love to burn around when we arent supposed to.
