1. Is the timing chain tensioner required? do you prefer to run the motor with it or without it?

2. When installing a new torque convertor do you fill it with any tranny fluind at all or install it dry and let the pump push fluid in?

3. In your opinions what is the best cam break in procedure. Is there a procedure listed on GNTTYPE.ORG, or anywhere for that matter?

4. Can the grounds on the back of the heads be safely moved somewhere else? Furthest rear bolt on the intake? or ??. Is just a PITA to remove those grounds while the motor is in the car. TIA

General consensus is use a chain & tensioner

fill it, take your time, it takes awhile

Best to follow manufacturers recommendation. Typically, use old broken in springs, regular fresh oil. there are alot of different opinions on this but here is a basic break in: Prime oil system, verify pressure, start car and rev it to 2500 for 15 minutes, watch oil pressure, down to 2000 for 5 up to 3000 for 5 and back to 2500 for 5. Change oil. Drive easy for 500 miles, change oil over to synthetic and go crazy. Like I said, there are alot of variences.

Yes they can be moved, just make sure it is a good clean ground

Will do, I would assume it would hold 5 maybe 6 quarts?

Will I cause damage or problems if I use brand new springs? I am going from stock valvetrain to a 204/214 cam and 100lbs spring. Would be much easier to install 100lb springs and bolt the heads on. Although if using the old springs is a must I will do the extra work involved with swapping on the 100lb springs after the break-in.

Thanks, I wasnt sure if they could be grounded anywhere, or had to be on the heads.

Definately do a steel gear/chain and tensioner. I use and suggest to you the Casper's ground extender kit. Use your 100 lb. springs because if it is going to fail it will do it sooner or later.

IMO, I like to see more that 500 miles before going to synthetic. Some say 1000 miles or more for the Turbo motors. I wait until 4000 miles show up. Just my .02

Chris Taylor, Well maybe you could hold off that long (4000 miles), personally, I couldn't:D

I've never seen any conclusive proof that you shouldn't use synthetic to break in an engine. It just seems to be a general rule that you should use dino oil for break in. I wonder what the manufacturers do with the Vett engines?

Intercooler, good point on the sooner than later thought.

All sounds good to me...I had heard both 500 and 1000 is when you should switch to syn. Ill probably just see how it goes. Maybe even run the old "dino" oil;) Breaking the cam in with the 100lb springs will make everything much easier.

I was thinking the same thing about the Vett when I was posting. :D
