I really Like my new ( to me ) 87 GN...
What are some manuals I should get to properly maintain it... Id liek to upgrade the Radio and stuff... I need to convert to R134... I have done that on a couple other cars with the autoparts kits with good luck so I was planning to replace the orings and replace the Dryer then See if it will hold a Vacuum. The previous owner charged the R12 and it cooled for about 6 months before it leaked down so it must be a slow leak....

I need to replace the headliner, see other thread it looks like just some screws and trim removal and it should drop out but correct me if I am wrong....

Also something that seems weird.. performance it is sometimes good sometimes it just seems to make allot of noise without really pulling my head back... If I just go say 50% on the pedal from a 50 mph cruise the boost goes to about 10 to 12 and it pulls hard... if I floor it and it down shifts it seems to just make noise even though the boost is hitting 19....I would like it to run mid 12's one day though... Just to keep up ( Ahead ) with the New GTO's and Stangs.

It has a Chip Jay something street chip and a K&n filter with a plenum distribution plate from Kirban and a boost reference fuel pressure regulator waldro pump as well... I am not to concerned about performance yet just want to get the AC working and the HeadLiner fixed so it is not an embarrassment to show to my friends....

If its making "noise" at 19 psi and not pulling its probley knock your hearing. I would start with the spring cleaning on gnttype.org then I would use the search function on this board and read all you can about basic tuning on these cars. Many things need to be set correctly for these cars to run good.
Example: If your fuel is a couple of pounds off for instance...that will give you knock on the top end.

Fix all issue before putting your foot to the floor. If not...that noise will turn into you cussing when you are pulling your heads to change headgaskets.;)

Post your progress or questions...everyone is here to help.

With your user name and choice in car(s), I can tell you have good taste! Good article on GNTTYPE.org about headliner replacement. I've done 3 or 4 and it's not difficult. Take your time and it will turn out fine. It does come out (headliner) but you need to drop the corner on one side once it drops down to do so. Follow the article. You do have a scantool, right? If not, get one so you can monitor KR and general state of tune. Eric Marshall of Turbo Tweak burns a killer street chip that is modern tech and up to date. Folks who have one know how well they work and perform. Factory shop manuals are good but this and a couple other sites should be all you need. Read and learn as much as you can. Find a local TR owner too so you can absorb knowledge there too. Good luck and have fun!
