I was at Ron's auto today for the teardown of my recently freshened smoking motor.Anyways for one thing, they(D*no*ech) must have used about 20 tubes of permatex on the motor due to the fact everything was glued down from top to bottom. It was a real struggle to take the longblock apart. In taking the pan and girdle off the block,it was pointed out by Jack M.that there was so much play on the bottom end that he was surprised that it had lasted to this point. He said that the girdle had kept the rods from walking into each other. In inspecting the crank Jack had seen that it had been welded in two places.Funny I got charged for a new crank last time it was apart at the other place. .As far as how the pistons were they had crusty oil deposits atop and heavy on the edges. The heads were not that of a sight either. They did have new springs and new leaking teflon seals and also, the top of the guides were never cut down to recieve the seals. There was a bunch other stuff that was pointed out that was not right . For a so-called fresh motor with about 1200 miles,I was not happy at all kinda embarassed too.The bill I was expecting almost doubled.Tell you one thing though,I never had anyone tear my motor apart in front of me and point things out that was needed ,not needed and why.And that kinda tells me I'm finally heading in the right direction with this....:)

Glad to see you geting things right

Did you inform Dynotech of whats going on?Are you planning court action? They did you wrong and they should reimburse you.Keep us updated

Stay away from Dynotech, i know a few people that got burned really bad by him and lost huge money.

I hate to hear anyone going through this with this motor. It can get expensive.
That much RTV is not a good sign. Was there evidence of rtv getting in the oiling system?
If the welding spots on the crank are in the counter weight, it may have been welded to balance it. Hopefully the expensive crank is still OK.
Good luck with the rebuild.

Teardown?

Dynotech is in NJ?? Call them and have their rep come look at what you paid them for. That way they cannot claim they were setup when it gets to court.. LOTS of video and/or digital fotos are good too.;)

Dynoreck

As far as taking legal action,I haven't considered it but thought about it several times. My father and I've been dealing with Fred for a while (since'95).He's done a couple of bolt-ons for my 1st GN way back then and a motor for my fathers GN that actually has 70,000+ miles on it and still running.Somehow this motor didn't work out for me.Although he charged me $3000 for this shot motor. He only got $2500 due to me cancelling the check of $500 I owed him in the end.I was determined to this due to the fact the car was still smoking when I took it home.I was gonna pay him back if the car did stop smoking with miles put on as he said it would do.But with around 1200 miles smoke just never went away.BTW the first 500 miles never saw a pound of boost.)0 vac at the most.Around the 600 mi. mark I did hit about 14-15lbs of boost with no knock for the first time and smoke got even worse and worse as i put another 600 miles or so on it.And that was it.I decided not to go back there because I knew he would've taken me for the longest ride till I probably gave the car up.He did offer to tear the motor down for free if the smoking didn't stop but I just couldn't trust him not even with my time. His engine builder is off site and I had no clue to what, who and where this guy was.Everytime I'd ask him about the guy he'd try to reassure me that the guy had lots of these motors built and not to worry.I got to the point where I was so sick of his B.S.ing and started not to believe a word he said.I see it as a very expensive mistake that I made and one that I will learn from. But hey,we all get what we deserve in the end. That $2500 would be nice to get back. What are my chances?Probably slim anyway.Hey,thanks guys for the replies and advice.I really appreciate it

Id try to pursue him

I would go after him for what he did so he doesnt do it to someone else.Has he even asked for the remaining $500?Easiest thing to do is this.In my state MA,you can go to small claims with no lawyer, just documentation, which you can get from Ron,pictures,Freds price list, things he did.Fred will have to show up for the court date or he will default and will owe you the money you are suing him for.I took a body shop to court over crappy work they did on one of my cars.He thought I had no recourse as did I until I filed a small claims court action for the max $2000 in MA.He was sent the letter by the court,I prepared all my evidence and when the day cam he didnt even show up,all the judge told me was he was in default, you are awarded the settlement, thats it.He had to pay or go to jail. Its real simple and something you should really consider. It cost me $14 dollars to file it.And you can even try to work things out before going before the judge as you can note this on the filing sheet. If I were you Id file it,wait for the court date and get at least some of your money back.I was very nervous about going to court, but after doing it,I will not even think twice to do it again if something like this came up again.I would think it would be tought to swallow $2500,thats a lot to lose.He most likley offered to take it apart for you so you wouldnt see what he did inside, and would probably milk you for more.Good thing you have Ron to back you up.

Its been said SO MANY TIMES on this board, but....

I'll say it again--STAY AWAY FROM DYNOTECH (Vetter) &
JIM DELASANDRO (Former Quarter Mile Performance) the've both mada a rather good living by WAYYY overcharging folks, Mis-Representing Motor Re-Builds, & Downright fraud:eek: Ask me how I know!!

IMHO:

get statements from the current builder, get lots of photots, take them to court. ;) You'll have a better than average shot at getting your dough back.
