I read some have had problems with WOT miss. Looking for some feed back on this ignition good and bad.

I heard it was a ground problem. Someone regrounded the box with bigger wire and it worked. I have the DIS-4 HO and no high rpm miss, my problem is their plug wires. Super conductor wires totally screw up my car! I dont know if it's my low impedence fuel injectors being sensitive or what but all I did was change wires and no more knock at all!!! I tried 2 sets of those wires because I didn't want to believe MSD wires were junk, so I kept on tryin till I blew a head gasket. Now with magnecor wires (I had before) no problems at all, I CHANGED NOTHING ELSE. I also put out a thread on them and other people like em, so I don't know. I went out to Jack Cs place and he runs the Magnecor 10mm " I can't kill those f^%$# things" So I went to Magnecor.com and researched their stuff (good reading) and bought a new set of 10mm (I had sold my old ones) I don't care about the "resistance" Bulls%$#, the car runs great and no more MSD "SCs" for me;)

As far as MSD, CDIs, and GNs, I don't see where the real advantage is.

On a v8 or extrememly high RPM engine you will run out of having enough dwell time to charge the coil with 14, so under real high rpm conditions, there is an advantage to using 380v on the primary side instead of 14.
They like to hype the fact that at lower RPM they have 3 sparks per power stroke, but that's just to make up for the poorer spark quality. You need voltage and amperage to generate a good flame front, a CDI gets you the voltage but the penalty is the lose of amperage, there ain't no free rides.

BUT,
the DIS system the GNs use is second only to the Coil Near Plug setups. It really is a good system, and unless your running to 9,000 RPM the CDI isn't really an aid, for a GN.

If you want to make a serious upgrade to the GN's ignition system it's going to Coil Near Plug. The eDIST is GN compatable, and works great.

Your results may very.
For off highway use.
Not to be attempted without adult supervision.

Bruce it wasnt so much the spark upgrade I was looking for. Its the 2step feature that intrigues me. Along with a timing adjustment..

I haven't had a good experience with the DIS-4.......the two step is a nice idea, but at any rpm above 3000 on the rev limiter, my turbo surges and the car backfires, etc

recently, the car has been dying at low rpm....disconnect the msd and all is well

ran 122 in the hot without it last wed.....think it is for sale

wanna buy?

yea i may be interested in buying .i need a way to control my launch and this is so far the best way with a stock wastegate set up

MSD

I've had no problem with my DIS 4. I installed it for two reasons. The two step and high rpm soft touch. I launch at 3750, 15psi (launch boost controll set up) and have the soft touch set at 6100. I would rather cut spark at 27psi boost than fuel. Good Luck.

I'm interested in how does the two step works. Soft touch set at 6100?

It's the standard box, didn't they just come out with the HO box. I have the launch rpm dip switches set to 3750 rpm. This low limit is activated by a ground. So, I wired my transbrake relay positive output to the key hot of a second relay that is feed with constant grond, instead of constant hot. When I active the transbrake it grounds the DIS - 4 box activating the two step and also activates the ground to my low boost solenoid. It hits around 3800 give or take and around 15 psi +/ 0.5 psi and studers just like it should. Ba, Ba, Ba ,Ba ,Ba... Let the transbarke go and off we go. The rage gate is set for 27+/- 0.5 psi. Whole set-up works like a dream. I have the rev limit in my FAST set to 6300 so that the MSD limiter hits first. I have set the dip switches for the soft touch to 6100. So far so good.

Thanks for the info Chyke. And for the HO (high out-put version) its been out for a few years now.
