Hi I just purchased these hot air headers and down pipe from a nice guy off of facebook, I was just wondering if anyone recognizes them for what brand they are, along with the downpipe which both the headers and downpipe appear to be kinda customized or something, either way I'm excited!

I plan to dyno my car stock and go to my local track, get some numbers and then bolt these on and see what gains I get.

On the left is passenger header then to the right is driver header with an external waste gate. Then under both of them is the cross over pipe and then downpipe all the way to the right.

Sorry, hit the button too soon again:mad:

Anyway, I had them on my 85 set-up when I bought it in 1994. I was told they were Hookers. I guess back then, Turbo Buicks were mainstream. The driver's side cracked not unlike the stockers. I also remember that mine had some kind of coating on them.

Tell me if they fit well. Because I remember my 3 bolt flanges not meeting at the proper angle. When tightening them, it was hard to get the bolts through the holes and when you started snugging them up, it felt as if you were stressing things quite a bit. Maybe that's what made the drivers side crack.

You had this set I bought, like you owned the exact ones sitting in my basement or are you ran these same brand headers on your car?

Or are you saying you're the guy I bought these from on facebook? Lol

Sorry, Something is wrong. Every time I go to reply, it sends before I type anything:mad:

No. That's not my set. I meant It's exactly like the set I had:LOL: I remember them like it was yesterday. When I converted to an 87 set-up, Jack Cotton kept the old motor with the headers on it. It may be the same set. Who knows how things move around our Buick world. It's like trying to follow a dollar bill.:)

ok cool, so did they help performance wise? I'm sure the downpipe will at least. I plan to get a dyno # stock, and a track # stock, then add these and then dyno/track # to see the results.

I'll probably eventually be E-85 as well, and bigger turbo, but who knows how much money I will have after the car is painted. Which is what I'm working on now, I'm taking the car down to bare metal, and patching rust, then painting. Once all that is done, I will mess with the engine.

I see you're from NY, I live in buffalo by the way lol, maybe they are your old headers! Although I don't know where the guy lived that I bought them from.

I don't know if they helped because they were already on the car when I bought it back in '94. It's been a long time since it's had a Hot Air set-up. The car never ran right because the original owner was a butcher! I got involved with Buick friends soon thereafter and then.........well, you know how it goes ;)

I think those are lee thompson headers and downpipe.

The guy I bought my car from didn't know anything, and neither did I. If he told me Barack Obama made them I would have believed him. That was 21 years ago.

I'm a little nervous about the wastegate, But I think I should be able to use the internal wastegate with this setup? I haven't looked under my hood in awhile lol, gotta get the body done!

I have a set of Lee Thompson headers on my car, they are different than those but the Wastegate is the same idea. I talked with someone with his waste gate in a similar setup/position and said it's ok, works good, just can be a little annoying on a nice cruise.
I have not yet gotten mine fired up with it yet, but spring is around the corner.

Is that wastegate mounted to the driver's side header? If it is, I made a mistake. Mine was factory type. Other than that, they are exactly like mine used to be.

I wouldn't be too happy on that location. I would weld the flange up and put the wastegate on the exhaust inlet to the turbo. Or I would use a factory style wastegate.

Yeah its

its on the driver side header.

Why is it annoying to cruise with the waste gate like that?

No. That's not it. I just prefer to have it where I can see it and get to it easy. Also, I'd rather bleed off exhaust gasses after all the headers have come together. Where you bleed the pressure off shouldn't matter, but, it makes me feel better.

I dont think those are Hookers, as I have owned a set of Duttweilers and they were supposedly modeled after kennys

Here are the dutweillers

Yea, like said. I was never sure who made the headers on my 85 set-up. They were there when I bought it.

So if anyones on the facebook groups they probably saw my video of my car making a knocking noise. Then the next day it didnt at all, although i didnt drive it that day but i did let it warm up all the way, also noticed the driverside manifold had been welded before and looks like a crack is forming.

So i guess im going to try to install the headers and downpipe.

I bought some manifold gaskets from advance auto, should be in tomorrow.

These headers didnt come with any bolts for the crossover pipe or to bolt the headers on but im sure i can reuse the manifold bolts. Probably not the crossover bolts. What size bolts should i use?

Where should i buy the gasket for the downpipe?

And any recommendation on if i need some type of gasket for the cross over pipe?

Also these headers had cracks, so i started welding them up today as well.

welding the headers needs to be done with stainless mig, or better yet tig. The gross over uses a 3/8 - 16 thread bolt. I used what I had laying around, no big deal what ever you use. I say your pm to me. Ill check to see if I have a nice drivers side header tonight. The bolts for the manifold are also 3/8 16 but there are certain ones that have studs on them for attachment of brackets. The down pipe gasket...if you are referring to the one that fits into the elbow is sold as a doughnut gasket and was available at oriley when I ran hot air. It was a ROL gasket I believe. No gaskets on the crossover pipe.

Thx man.

I just hope the welds hold, certain areas were hard to get good penetration, and other areas i blew through but then filled, so im hopeing it's strong enough to last awhile.

Also i just used standard .024 mig wire with c25 gas. Im talking about my aftermarket headers, so maybe they arent stainless, they definitely dont look it and have some surface rust in some places.

Ill also modifiy the cross over pipe if its actually too short and pulling on the manifolds causing them to crack. I wont know til i test fit.
