I've had the GN on front jackstands for about 3-4 weeks while I was rewiring the major lines for a new 140 amp alt.

Today, I dropped the car start it up and while I'm backing out I noticed that the power steering, besides the usual slop/play, was not smooth but really hard to move and felt like something was binding.

I checked the fluid levels and added a little drop more for good measure and checked for leaks and possible binding issues. I even took the car for a short drive 1-2 miles to see if having the car sit in that tilted position for so long would have affected anything.

How is it that I change the alt and the power steering fails???

Is it just me or is this car trying to drive me insane?

Does anyone have some advice on what I might be missing here?

Try bleeding it out by going lock to lock slow and steady, then just past the stop point for 3-5 seconds, 3-4 times each way. Check also for belt slip when turning the wheel in place.

I think I found the issue. The pulley on the replacement was smaller than the stocker thus allowing for too much slack and apparent belt slippage.

I'll put it all back together tomorrow and know for sure.

Belt was not tight so pump wouldn't cooperate. Got old pulley and belt is tight so pump now works!! yippee. However, alt is still not cooperating... (140 amp alt thread...)
