Hey All,

On my '81 bird (3.8L E/C N/A 2bbl) I have a problem where I go to full throttle from idle, and it backfires a bunch of times and hesitates, then goes. I have just replaced the following components with brand new as of yesterday:

Carburetor (DualJet E/C)
Coolant Temperature Sensor
MAP sensor
Spark Plugs (BOSCH Platinums)

I thought about replacing the ECM and/or the distributor as this might be the problem. I also had a computer error awhile back:

"SPARK CONTROL BYPASS CIRCUIT GROUNDED" (via Diacom)

This error has not returned, but I still suspect it may be a problem.

I also have an intermittent miss while the engine is warm, possibly unrelated.

Anyway, you guys are the experts, what do you think?

Thanks!

Julian

Firing order not right. Sometimes when one changes the plugs they would lose track of one. (Double check.....this has happened many a times to an old veteran like myself.... ). :D
