nail in transmission

I hate half ass stuff like this.

There is a nail in the shifter. Is that suppose to be a roll pin or what should be in there. Can someone give me the size of the correct fastener so I can fix this.

Thats the way GM did it. I guess they figured nails were the cheapest way to retain the shift shaft. TH400 shift shafts are the same way, so are the governors. I agree, it does look out of place but it works just fine.

Thanks guys, I guess I was just reminded of my good friend that uses finishing nails to retain castle nuts. I finally went and bought him a box of cotter pins.

If you break that puppy off flush with the case you will curse General Motors vehemetly for about three days . Not one of GM's better ideas .
