My 2000 GMC Sierra (6.0L) is equipped with an OE trailer light harness, but suddenly the harness (just in front of the rear bumper, by the spare tire) has no juice. No lights, signals, anything.

No blown fuses, no meltdowns (that I know of), or anything. Anyone know where the built-in trailer harness gets juice from, or plugs in near the front of the truck? There aren't any other electrical issues at all on the truck, so I'm a little confused. I hate to dump a bunch of cash at the dealer if it's a known problem that's an easy fix.

Thanks, guys.

Don't know if it's like my Trailblazer, but I had something similar happen only to find out that GM has put seperate fuses in for the trailering harness that way if something on the trailer shorts it doesn't kill the lights to the truck.

HTH

IF GM was as smart as Ford, they likely have the tow package seperately fused. I know my Ford Super Duty has several seperate fuse blocks for various sections of the truck. Take a look around, and find them all, there's got to be more than one. Likely a circuit breaker popped.

Uh.. that's what I just said.

Sorry, wasn't paying close enough attention.

My mom's 96 1 ton has a separate fuse, but it was marked as an auxil. fuse in the fuse box diagram. I think the trailer harness was probably installed at the dealer thus the use of the problem. You might also check for a broken ground wire somewhere.

Just my .02

I helped one of my friends hook up his trailer harness on his (2002-2003 ?)Chevy Tahoe. Near the master cylinder, the factory never completed attaching the wires to the power. I think there was an orange 10ga wire and some other wires.

And read the owner manual if you have one.
