O.K. heres the deal. I just bought this car with 115k miles on it and the original owner is dead. What I hear is that this car was his baby and he really took care of it, which is obvious by it's looks. Car has a really good shine to it and the interior looks new. I bought the car from a second owner which doesn't know a lot about the cars and wasn't really sure what has been done to the car, only that it had a scan master, thrasher chip, fuel p gauge, and hooker exhaust. All of these things are where you can see them so who knows.

The car shifts really firm throughout all gears, which makes me think it already has a shift kit??

Yesterday, I let my wife drive the car and I noticed it started short shifting, jumping through the gears quickly. I figured it was her driving, but later I got behind the wheel and once the car was up to running temp. it started doing it with me. It would shift early and when you slowed down it wouldn't downshift normally almost like it was always in to high of a gear for the speed you were running. I don't know how long this car has been sitting, but could it be the TCC causing this?

Is there anyway to know for sure if there is a shift kit installed other than visually inspecting the trans.?

I was thinking about rebuilding the transmission but don't have the $ that it takes to hire it done. Who has the.. and Which kit is the best kit to get and how hard is it to rebuild. I've messed with 5 speeds but not auto's..

I'm not going to build this car to radical, but want a mid to low 7 second- 8th mile car. So I want a tranny thats going to handle that.

Thanks Guys.

Sounds like a bad TCC solenoid to me. Shift stacking (shifting too fast) when the car is at operating temp, is an indication of a bad TCC solenoid. If the car is down shifting weird and acts as if the car may stall when stopped this is another indication that you have a sticky or bad TCC solenoid. The part is around $45 bucks, filter and gasket is around $20 and fluid at $1.50, you should be able to replace it for around $80 bucks or less. These solenoids tend to be a weak link in the 200R transmission. Should only take 3 hours or less if you take your time. Remove the tranny pan, drain fluid and replace solenoid. Its easy just messy and time consuming....mostly messy. Do a search for TCC related problems before you take the plunge.

HTH,

Aaron
