As many know, I am throwing together a new setup. And I'm torn on this decision....

Its a .030 over 109 with a 214/210 cam, good flowing heads and a TE63-1. Harry at PTE sold it to me based on my combo. While the motor is out awaiting my slackin arse to get it back together, I have been pondering taking out my 3K stall PI converter and sending it out to be restalled.

What I'd like to know is how happy or disappointed I may be with this converter as is with this engine/turbo setup. I'd like to know if it is imperative to send this converter out now, or should I simply wait and see. I ask because the car is down now and wont be in the way anywhere waiting for the converter to come back. Once together, and I pull the converter, the car will sit in my work lot for a few weeks I guess, waiting for the converter to come back. I'd rather have my ducks in a row now, then do it later.

I know my 61 was liveable, I could blow the tires away from a roll, but it didnt spool close to as fast as the stocker did, and if the 63 would be worse then my 61, I'd be unhappy with it. BUT the 61 was blowing into a STOCK long block, so I'm thinking with the increased airflow of the new setup I may get away with this converter being a tad tight. Money is tight on this project and if I can use the $175 or $200 elsewhere, it would be good.

Opinions/experience are appreciated!

the converter should be a 0 pump as pi calls it. if it is. i would go up one pump size. should be 3400 or 3500 rpm stall and should spool that 63 just fine and not be too losse at the top. and if the converter is less that 2 yrs. old the first restall is on them----len

In the past year, I've been lucky and have gotten to drive a number of cars with different converters. While each winds up with it's own personality in part because of the car, too tight of converter, just kills the car. While a too loose of converter on the street just blows the tires off. And for the street with a Lock-up takes away the cruise slippage problem, anyway.

For me, it's just about how loose I want to go, and it's a 3,600 RPM min......
But, this based on the 911, and Yank versions.
There are some converters that when you ask for 3,600 the are really mushy below that.

So far the best way I know of finding what you really like is getting to drive a bunch of different cars.

Maybe there's someone up your way with a similiar combo that you can take around the block.

the PI "6" pump will work fine with your 63....anything less, you will not be happy
