My buddy's 85 T-Type (Mods: Hotwired Walbro 307, Adj. regulator, ATR Up & Dp, newly welded headers, Big mouth cold air, 2800 Red Stripe, JL 93 chip) will not start and run. It was running fine, 55mph, when he tried to get on it and found more gas=less power and less gas=a tad bit more power. Lots of black smoke and missing. Now it won't even start without holding the pedal down and then it only sputters for maybe 5 seconds. It's not throwing any codes and the fuel pump stays on continously instead of priming the rail and cutting off when the key is switched on. I thought maybe it was the fuel pump or hotwire relay? Anybody know how to check one? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Idont know how the relay works but if it is closed or open [what ever way it works] and you test it with the power to it and then cut off the power and test it, i would guess it would be open one way and closed the other, i could be wrong most likey but it was worth a try. Sounds like its getting flooded, check a spark plug to see how wet it is.

gotta go but i'll think about it and check my relay.

Try checking the grounds I had an 84 with a bad ground under the alternator. The car had some of the same symtoms, lots of black smoke then a no start condition. I cleaned the ground and the car started and ran fine.

Hey thanks CrazyGN and Dave for the good advice. I'll relay these to my buddy. Keep the ideas coming guys and thanks.
