i am going to put a 400 in the car...can i reuse my shifter or would getting a different one work just fine? what about tranny mount...do i need a new one? if so where do i get one? other than a new driveshaft any other advice...

thanks in advance,

shandy

You can buy a new shifter, or do a search on this board. There is someone making 3 speed plates for the stock shifter. The mount can either be changed out, or you can mod the stocker. The TH400 mount holes are 1/2" wider than the TH200r4. Of course, you will need a new convertor, trans fill tube, and drive shaft trans yoke. Most likely, you will need to have your present driveshaft shortened, or replaced( you will need to measure this after your trans is installed ). Also, if you use a 'Kirban" style driveshaft safety loop, it will most likely not work w/o mods, as the u-joint will now be further rearward. That's about all I can think of-----the install is pretty straight forward. Brian

DUH call me and I'll tell you were to get everything:rolleyes:

Turbo 400

I am going to a turbo 400 as well, and would like to know where to get any additional parts required and any information that will help with the install.

TH400 w/Rossler brake---Vince Janis
Trans mount---HR parts poly mount ( Jack Cotton )
Fill tube--- ATI BOP w/locking stick ( Jack Cotton )
Shifter--- B&M Pro stick ( Summit or Jack Cotton )
Convertor---ATI fuel/blown ( Jack Cotton )
Driveshaft--- CM w/1350 series yokes/u-joints ( Dynotech )

This is the what and where for me. Other options are available. Brian

Also will need a new driveshaft loop. When I did the conversion the one I had on my 200 wouldn't clear the driveshaft.

What did you do to get the speedometer to work? I've read something about the speedo gears inside the tailshaft, haven't the slightest clue about this.

I gave Vince my gear ratio and tire diameter. He set it up for me when the trans was built, so it was just plug and play. Brian

What's so different about it? Could you post a pic of it.

Thanks

The "Kirban" style is flat on all four sides, and comes in contact with ( or is too close to ) the u-joint. The u-joint is rearward of it's original location, do to the slightly longer TH400. Atleast that is how it was on my car. I needed to go to a round style loop. :) Brian
