Need HELP with BS and Tire sizes for Weld Wheels.

Hi Folks,
I am going to be buying a new set of wheels and tires for my 87GN. The wheels I really like are the WELD DRAGLITES.
I want to go 15 x 8 for the REAR and 15 X 7 for the FRONT.
My Questions are:
What size Backspacing for the REAR & FRONT Wheel will I need.
Also what size tires for the REAR & FRONT will fit without rubbing. This is basically a cruising car and not a drag car.
Any ideas???

Ok, 15 x 8 REAR is 3.5 BackSpace. Thanks.
I dont want it to look to outrageous in the back as compared to the front. How do you think this set up will look.
15 x 8 Rear with 275/50......with 3.5 Rear BS
15 x7 FRONT with 235/60 BS unknown yet.
The tires of coarse will be the BFG Comp TA's.
I want to make sure I get no rubbing in the rear and I dont want to use any spacers. The car still has the original suspension, as it only has 6,500 Original Miles.

I just saw your pic. That is just the type of look I want on my car. It looks AWESOME.
 
The rears fit like a glove. They don't rub at all on the inside (like my stock T-type rims did). They are somewhat close to the fender lips though. If you've got saggy springs, it might be a problem. Mine are fine though, don't rub on launches ethier.

The 15x7's with a 235/60 should look pretty good on front too. I've got those on my stock rims.

So should I go with the 50's instead of the 60's.
 
235/60 and 275/50 are the same height. I had this combo on my 87 T for a while.
 
Thanks for the info mygrain. Do you happen to know the backspace I would need for Weld Draglites 15x7 for the front.
 
No problem at all! Only problem I see is that car isnt be driven!!!!
Just kidding of course. Update us when you install the new parts. I have 15x8s on the rear with a 3.5 bs, (275-60r15 BFG DR) and have a cherp every now and then on the right rear and deep'ish dips in the road (just a f.y.i.) Rub is on the outside lip. Could use a little of a roll job, but nah...... I can live with it

Thanks for all your help. I use the car for car shows and on local cruise nights in my area in the summer. The purpose for the Weld Wheel/Tire setup is for the "Cruise Nghts" to give it that "NASTY" look.
But I really want to make sure I get a combination that looks good and doesnt rub or require spacer's. Someone else suggested 255/60's for the rear which he said definately wont rub, I don't know how true that is that is why I am trying to gather all the facts before making the purchase. I am looking to buy the whole set up in a few days. So I really want to make sure I get the right size.

I might agree with the 255. 275/60 just barely catches by probably a hair on mine. And in my opinion the 275/60 is almost too tall. (I say almost) and the 50 series looks kinda squatty and too low profile. I bought the Welds for the same exact reason as you. Give the car some attitude when they on. I put the originals back on for the "all stock" car shows. Of course mine are Drag Stars but basically same look as you are after.
 
Exactly, now you know where I am coming from. Don't get me wrong I love the Drag Stars look too, but too many guys around here have them on their GN's, believe it or not I would be the only one of about 12 locals with GN's to have the Drag Lites.
So in other words the 275/50's is kind of wide and it may rub on the frame or fender well and the 275/60's is too tall and may rub on the inside? If I do go with the 255's should I go 50's or 60's? Then what size should I get for the fronts? What difference is the look?

Im not sure if they make a 255/50, but even if they did, I would go with the 255/60. I dont see how that would rub at all. I went with the 275/60s so I could get it in a BFG Drag Radial. (for looks only, no strip time here). I went with a 225/60 front, but man I wish I would have gone up just one size to a 235/60. I will after a while, but not yet. I believe as for as a 15" wheel goes, the biggest no rub sizes will be:

Front 15x7 wheel with a 235-60r15
Rear 15x8 wheel with a 255-60r15

Comp TAs are a great choice, but for the front I just put on some BFG Radial TAs, because it half way matches the block tread on the rear of the car. Plus they were only 55 bucks each new. (got them thru work, dealership)

As far as the look goes, 60s series tires on the rear will give it a nice rake in my opinion. 50s sometimes give the appearance of showing too much fenderwell like the car sits up too far away from the tire. "I" like the 60s better (rear) but the 50s will look meaty and handle better.(shorter sidewall to contend with)

I think I have made up my mind and I will go with 255/60's (Rear)
and 235/60's (Front). I want to avoid the headaches if they happen to rub with 275's...I see posted from other members that with some cars the 275's in 50's or 60's series still rub, whether it's a kiss of a rub or not, I could deal with it, I am manic like that.

Your car looks **A*W*S*O*M*E*...
I love the way it looks, I want my car to look just like that but with the Drag Lites... BTW do you happen to know the difference between the Draglites and the Draglites XP, I tried to see what was the difference was between both of them on the Weld website and I cant really tell, or it doesnt even mention it.
I see that you have a GS, I love the 70's GS/GSX as well.

I'm in the position as you, or the same mindset. I was wondering the same thing about the two different draglites.
Can you get a 255x60 in a drsg radial?

the XP'S are made in a bigger diameter with more of a positive offset centered towards 4th gen. f-bodys, mustangs,newer cars etc.
 
no one makes a drag radial in a 255/60-15.its either 235/60-15 in the mickey or step up to 275/50's or 60's in the nitto or bfg.
