Need HELP with SHIFTER and indicator light

THe little plunger is stuck in my shifter. I can move it up and down if I push on the bottom part that is supposed to lock the shifter. Isn't the plunger supposed to be free and pop right out? I tried grabbing onto it and pulling it out but it seems to be connected to the bottom hook? Need suggestions. One more thing, is the light for the shift indicator get its power from the ashtray light hookup on the non console cars? THe power wire is brok off and missing and the gray wire on the ashtray harness is tapped into with a broken gray wire. CONFUSING, ISN'T IT?

If you're talking about the white piece that go into the handle, it is threaded and it just unscrews. I've never looked into where the power for the gray wire comes from so I can't help you there.

so all I gotta do is grab the white plunger with some pliers and unscrew it to the left? That gray wire i'm talking about sits underneath the radio in the dash.

your correct that a grey wire at cig lighter lamp is tapped into from the factory with a blue scotchlock and connected to shift indicator lamp.ground(black) lead should be attached to shifter body with a snap on clip.

Just curious. Never had one of these cars before. it looked to me that the wire broke and somebody rigged it back up and broke again. but if yours is that way, mine is that way, that must be the way it is then, weird. Anyways am I correct about the shifter plunger then. Just unscrew it a spray a bunch of pb blaster in it and loosen it up?
