I know questions about wheel/tire sizes have been asked many times before. And I am working my way through the archives trying to figure out the answer. But I have a little twist on the usual question so please bear with me...

After talking to a few people and reading posts here by UNGN and others, I have decided to move up from 26" ET Streets to 28" ET Drags on my GN for the track. Given that the stock steel wheels are sooo heavy relative to most any aftermarket wheel, I'd like to run different wheels on the street as well. Here's the kicker though...I'd like to run the same style of wheels on the street as I do at the track. Ideally I'd like to run a 28 X 12.5 ET Drag on a 15 X 10 rim with 4.5" BS (according to my research thus far ;) ). I'd prefer to run 16" rims on the street for better handling as the stock rim/ET Streets at 20 psi are not to my liking when trying to make quick lane changes on the street. It looks like Torq-Thrusts come in 15" and 16" rims, but Convo Pros are 15" only. Any other recommendations on wheels?

I'm also contemplating GNX flares down the road and wonder how a tire that stuffs the stock rear wheel well would look on a car with the flares.

Finally, how does staying with the 15" rims limit choices for aftermarket brake systems? Are there still some decent ones available?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm just trying to build a car that can march down the 1320' and still take a corner on the way home. Thanks guys.

Just a couple of answers.

The GNX flares do not make any difference except for looks.

The BEAR disc brakes seem to require 17" rims.

your tire goals aren't compatible....a tire that performs at the strip will be horrible on the street (ET Streets included) the closest you can come is drag radials and they aren't much good at the track.....

use slicks at the track and change the tires for the street

or accept one compromise or the other

That's what I am saying Woody. I want to run a 15" wheel with ET Drags at the track and a 16" wheel with a good radial on the street. Different wheels, but same style of wheel. I'm thinking 15X10 for the track and maybe 16X8 for the street. Sorry if that part was unclear.

oh....gotcha now.......I see your problem...somewhat limited selection in 15 and 16 inch sizes (Torq-thrust II's?)

a 15X8 should be plenty for the track...with a bit under 4" backspace should handle about anything

I use the Centerline Telstar (6 of 'em) but no 16" sizes.......

whatsup al
i drive with 5.5 centerline autodrags inthe front. 8.5 centerline autodrag inthe rear .the rear rims have a 3.5 backspacing. the front tires are mt sportsman. the rear tires are 12.5 x 28 x 15 mt et streets.
i have no problem with the ride .i didnt have to roll the fenders either. i dont drive it every day.but the centerlines look really good and are lite as a feather.
