I just bought a 1984 GN and when I crank it up it sounds just like it has a spark plug out. Like a popping noise. I heard the guy I got it from had the boost turned up and the gas pressure down when it happen. If that makes sense. Thanks for your help.

Makes a lot of sense.
Based on your description, it sounds like a blown HG.

Did you verify you don't have a blown spark plug? (While I have seen this before, it is a wishfull thought  )
Can you perform a compression test?
Water in the oil?

First things first. Check your oil level and Check what color the oil is. Then do a compression test.

Thanks Jerry. I haven't had time to do a compression test yet, but I did check the oil and it doesn't show any water in the oil. I still thank it maybe a blown head gasket. I just found this site last night and thought I would just check in and see what you'll thought it maybe. Thanks for your help. Robert
