I have been working on my 86 grand national for a while now, and last month i finally got it inspected. But i have a serious problem. when driving around normally, the car runs fine (im pretty sure) but when i get on the gas, like when merging or getting on the highway, both of the turbo lights light up on the dash. My car is equipped with the digital dash. Both green and red lights light up, and when the red light comes on, the car suddenly stops accelerating and just stutters really bad. I usually have to try and merge onto the highway at around 45 mph.....i replaced most of the vacuum lines in the engine, except for the five hooked up to the vacuum block. I did replace the vacuum lines going from the solenoid to the y connector to the actuator and wastegate. I am totally stumped guys, and i dont want to cause any engine damage. Any ideas on what could be wrong with my car??

Both lamps lighting up is normal. One is for low boost. One is for high. I forget how many pounds trigger each light. Thats the only thing l don't like about my digital dash. I wish we had the same turbo gauge as the analog cars. As far as your drivability problem, if you've replaced every vac line except the ones at the vac block then l would replace those and see what happens. Could solve the problem. If not it could be a host of other things. Bad MAF, ignition module, plugs, plug wires, etc. Do you have a scanmaster?

thanks for replying mearly65, i appreciate it. I put a new maf sensor on it awhile back, and i did put new spark plugs and wires on it, but the wires i have are accel and are aftermarket thicker wires. Do you think that these thicker spark plug wires could be giving me problems? I am in the process of getting a boost gauge, but i havent received it yet. I do not have a scanmaster yet, do you think it would be a good investment for me to make? Thanks alot

Might be a loose wire. Can't see how the size would effect it.

What spark plugs?

Also where did you get the replacement maf? That could be a issue as well. It's hit or miss on those things.

Get a Scanmaster and boost gauge. What sparkplug and gap did you use?

At the bare minimum you need a scanmaster. It will make your life so much easier when it comes to tuning and diagnosing your car when a problem comes up.

i am using bosch spark plugs with a gap of .035, i wasnt completely confident with how i put together my wires when i got them. I am thinking about buying a set of spark plug wires that are original and already put together. i got the replacement maf from advance auto parts. it said it was an exact fit and looked identical to the original one that went bad. Do you know where i can purchase a scanmaster?

Rebuilt mafs are very unreliable. I would consider a translator and lt1 maf.

ok thanks guys, where could i get a translator and lt1 maf? and what kind of spark plugs do you recommend i get?

Check the Vendor's section. Sparkplugs would depend on your mods, list them out or put them in your sig so more people can help.
