I have polished three housings. Makes a total mess if you do it inside. I did it in my Dental Lab with a high torque lathe. Still took over 1 1/2 hours. I bell-mouthed the turbine discharge area, just after the turbine blade, cleaned up casting flaws, smoothed out anything I could.
Just do it yourself. Allot of sanding at first with sanding disk and sanding rolls. Start with 80 grit then 160. Final with 320. After that buff with red then polish with white using a clean pad. Makes a mess so do it outside and cover up with an apron or something.
WOW, Thanx for the good info guys!!! I'm just not sure if I have the time right now to do it myself? but 1 guy wanted $75 for a polish and $200 for a show polish and to me a polish is a polish (or it should be at least??)
Bringing this topic back to life as I'm looking to have my compressor housing polished as well. Anyone know of a place in the Northeast? Also, can it be polished so that the raised lettering stays on, or does it have to be ground smooth first?
