Since 1990 I've been using a tranny cooler that Eastern Performance sold back then. I have the fluid going to it exclusively and have had good luck with it up untill now. I recently installed a tranny temp gauge, a new tranny, and a 3800 rpm 9/11 converter. At the track last Sunday I noticed that on the T brake and out the back door the temp was around 250*F and then would slowly cool down to around 140*-150* while I allowed things to cool down. First off, what might be the "normal" operating temp for a set-up such as this? Secondly, what tranny cooler do y'all recommend that might be more efficient and HD than the one I'm using now?? I believe this cooler is rated at 18,000 GVW and it has 3/8 tubes and 6 passes. I would like to purchase a cooler that would keep the temps lower to begin with a cool down at a faster rate. BTW, the cooler is mounted on the radiator behind my FM IC.

Good one.

I got mine from Bruce at Precision Trans. Guaranteed for life. Ha ha, not sure if he should've done that. It looks like a stacked plate design. I have been told by many good trans guys that the tube and fin coolers are crap. ERIC. (Where is the spell check?)

My son and I both use B&M big cooler. I believe it is rated at 28000. At any rate it is the one that has .500 female pipe threads and recommended for either oil or trans. It is the stacked plate design and we mount in front of the rad. My son uses his cooler in the rad plus the B&M. Even on summer days and out on the country roads running back to back 1/4 mile blast, I have watched the trans temp. gage, and it never gets over 150. My son went to NAPA and bought the necessary fittings and pre made 5/16 steel lines (different lengths) and bent the tubing so he has no rubber hoses in his system. Makes for a killer cooling system. Good Luck

The Race Cooler is the one you want. It is 1.5 inches thick, there is one that is 3/4 inch thick. So, make sure you get the right one.
