Ok, first of all, i did a search for this and didnt really find what i was looking for. Anyway...i'm gonna switch my ecm soon and need some help. I checked the # and the one i found was 1226459. I couldnt find the 84 ecm # on gnttype.org, but i'm assuming its the 84. Is it?

Next, is there anything else i should or need to switch? like the maf or coil module thing? is it hard to change all of them? Because i figure if i do one i might as well switch everything else. Sorry bout all the questions...any help would be awesome. --Dan

Not sure about the number ecm but i would change over to the 87 ecm , maf and chip, you will also need a air temp sensor or the check engine light will stay on they are about $10-15.00 . I still have the 85 coil on mine but i do run the 87 ecm and all.

The number for the 84-85 computers is the one you posted (1226459). I switched over to the 148 ecm in my 85 GN and kept the stock 85 MAF. I use a 2200 ohm resister in the C11 port on the computer instead of the MAT sensor. This tells the computer that the air temp is 76 degrees and the car runs like a raped ape. No check engine light and I run a Thrasher 92 chip for 36ers.

Can you give more info on the 2200 ohm resistor and installation. I have never heard of this, it seems it would be easier to do than running the mat wire?

Sure, I ran some 20 guage wire from the C11 port to the 2200 ohm resistor (Radio Shack) and the other end to ground. You could run the other end to the D12, black wire (ground for TPS and CTS). The computer reads this as 76 degrees + or - and the car doesn't run rich like Dan Smith's project did. A friend of mine here came up with the idea and did it on his car long before I learned about this. His 84 T is still stock with the 87 ecm and Thrasher for stock injectors. I have lots more done to my car than he does, but they both work the same. I have yet to change out to the later module or coilpack as my 85 equipment is working fine...so far. ;)

Lots of people told me it wouldn't work because of different MAF calibrations. I have had the car running this way for quite a while now (somewhere over 1 year) and Cliff's car has been this way for maybe 3?? or so years.

Thanks for the info! I have read many posts on turbo guys running 84-85 turbo cars with 84-85 MAF's with 86-87 ecm's. I also believe you can have chips burned for the 84-85 MAF's with 86-87 ecm's?
