hey all

car has been on road for about 6 months almost all problems gone but one need help and opinions just had motor rebuilt most mods listed below car feels like it pulls hard to about 4,000 4,500 rpm and now just recently im hearing a small what i believe is a valve tap how can i fix this someone told me i just had to adjust the torque on the rockers not sure and im wondering which company supplies postons with these "high performance springs " im looking to put new springs in the car i feel this is the week point at the moment what kind of springs and what pressure postons springs felt similar to stock i got there rebuild kit and it came with them so i used it i figured there better than the stock any opinions on this problem or suggestions on which brands are best for these cars this is the only thing really keeping me from enjoying the car running 19 # boost no knock just falls flat after 4000 rpm thanks in advance and sorry for the long post

Valve tap

How do you know its 'valve tap' ? Are you suggesting that the springs are bad ? You just installed them - new from postons ? I think the stockers are around 90 lbs or so... I'd be doubtful on the springs failing if they are new.

My guess is your noise might be something else. Cam ? You mentioned the car 'falls flat' at 4000 rpm..... do you have a wiped cam lobe or other cam related problem ?

Best bet is to get a confirmation on that noise you are hearing. My understanding is that these rockers are non-adjustible type - they are on a shaft. Maybe pop the valve cover and ensure that all the studs on the shaft are tight and try to wiggle each rocker to see if there is any excessive play.

1984 t-type ported and polished heads and intake, postons headers and crossover pipe, gn110t cam, forged pistons, stock turbo, 37pph injecters, high performance fuel pump hot wired , adjustable fuel pressure reg., high performance valve springs and lifters, 93 chip, electronic boost controller, electric fan, adjustable wastegate actu.,new stage II 200 4r with a 2800 stall conv. all comin to gether as we speak.
A "knock" is HARD to diagnose in writing.
Is it a "tick tick", tock tock" or "tack tack" sound? (joke)

The rockers are non-adjustable.
Be sure the shaft is torqued correctly and not cracked at the bolt hole.

Does is knock at idle? Louder under load?
When you start it up? What is your oil pressure?
R U sure it is not an exhaust leak?

By the way ......... 19#, Stock turbo, no IC or alky mentioned, without knock ............ That is pretty D**** good! Race Gas? Guess there is hope for the rest of us

hey thanks for the replies it is possible it is an exhaust leak ive always had problems with it leaking on that side header ill check i thought it was more of a tapping than the puffing sound you hear when you blow the gasket though guess i wont know til i pull it off as for the spring i just thought they could be the wrong brand or not good enough for the cam as for it wiping out a lobe i doubt it the car runs too good for something like that just feels like after 4,000 or 4500 it loses its pep i was starting to look into alky because i thought maybe it needs a cooler charge oil pressure at start up is close to 75 and the sound doesnt get louder stays the same just speeds up alittle just thought maybe the poston springs werent right with the bigger cam and by the way everything is new springs lifters rockers etc

19 # no ic no alky just patience and 94 sunoco :D

thanks more opinions Anthony
