I pulled all the EGR stuff off and did a block-off plate. I also bought a new gasket. I scrated the intake surface down and installed the gasket dry. My idle is wandering a bit, so I took some brake clean and sprayed it right at the gasket and the idle went up. I can also hear a leak at the gasket. What are you guys using on this gasket to prevent leaks? High temp RTV orange?

I would bet money that the plate is cocking over some burr or lump or piece of gasket. You clamp the nut down and if the mating surface isnt perfectly flat and clean, it will rock upward and not seal. You also dont want to overtighten it. Take it back apart, plug the hole so no crap falls in there while you're working, and clean it all correctly..dont "scratch" it clean...that will create the problem you have. Put a thin layer of copper silicone on both sides and just tighten the nut as tight as it needs to be. Keep an eye on the block off plate as you're tightening and see if it tilts up and breaks the seal. Only tighten it as tight as you can get it, before it starts to rock up. Use blue loctite on the nut.
