Was goin home from the bar / cruisin here in detroit friday nite, goin southbound on woodward avenue, and this cocky dark blue late model firebird wanted to try something. I let him play with himself for about 3 lights. I wasnt going to bite, but I couldnt help it. Got to a light, and lined up. It was unspoken, but we both knew what was going to happen. So of course the light turned, and we both mashed it. We both immediately got neck and neck, but then when the turbo spooled, and his car all of a sudden became a little slower for some reason. After chirping hard into second, my tires broke loose, and he gained about 4' on me. (still behind by about a half car) But still couldnt over come the black brick, with a really bad tune, on 400 treadwear "radial t/a's" nonetheless. I could tell he had a little done to his car as well. He had exhaust done, and of course I'm sure intake as well. At any rate, I honestly thought I was going to get whooped, but my little honey did me well. She hung in there, and showed him, and his passenger what was up. Kinda suprised me actually. I hope he shows up for the grand national cruise this wednesday... Im sure he doesnt know that half of those 30some gn's, are most likely under 12 second cars... Ill post pictures, of the 'darkest' car gathering youve ever seen before if you guys want...

ROF, LMFAO. Damn that was a good one. Good Kill.
I would have to bite on that one myself.
Can't stand being 'egged' on by someone willing to loose.

If I can ever get the courage to turn up the boost, I'll be looking for this firehawk that thinks he's somethin'. Maybe I better get that alky kit too.

if he even kept up at all, he was probably a trans am or a firehawk, not a firebird. firebirds are v6s and run mid/low 15s stock.

good kill anyhow. way to make the f-body bow down to its g-body superior! :D

firebird, firechicken, chickenhawk.. i dont know... but i know it wasnt a V6. you can spot those by the lower end exterior trim package.. denoted by plastic 15" wheels, single exhaust, and bland styling. No, this was some sort of V8, with a nice ram something or other hood. I know theyre all different, but if its an f body from pontiac, i just call it a firebird. and f body is an f body. theyre all the same to me. the firebirds are just extended sunfires, and the camaros are just longer cavaliers. look at em next time. youll see what im talkin about.

at any rate, the only cars that beat me yet, were 2 supercharged early mustang notchbacks, and one brilliantly fast twin turbo audi. one newer camaro with intake, exhaust, pulleys, chip, gear, and frame braces nearly put an a$$ whoopin on me, but there was no more real room to race, but i can tell this car was no joke. ( i woulda got beat) so i dont consider that a race, but more of a playin around session. Oh well, this wednesday night, about 30 gn's are going to cruise down the most coveted cruise strip in motown. see whos who on that night. though, its soo intimidating, noone ever wants to race. (so that kinda stinks ) Oh well,, at least its a night alone with my honey. (sophies her name)

Overgrown Sunfire...? No, I think that title belongs squarely on the Grand Prix, both the first and second-gen W-body platforms (which are more or less the direct descendants of the A/G-body cars). The F-body looks nothing like the J-body cars.

At least the F-body went out blazing, instead of being transformed into a neutered four-door family mid-sized front-wheel-drive sedan...

the w body bears absolutely no resemblance to the a or g bodies. the only similarity is that gm used it for the same model names. the g body went out in the best blaze it could have -- with the turbo regals.

and yes, there is some resemblance from the j bodies to the f's, but i think it goes the other way -- they try to make the sunfire and crapalier look like their sportier models. there's nothing wrong with the looks of any of em in my opinion. i don't really judge cars on their looks, either -- just because my GS looks like a grandpa-mobile and my T-Type looks like it came from the wrong side of the trailer park doesn't mean they're slow or crappy!

??? take a 2001 firebird.. and a 2001 sunfire.. and look at em. same rear end body lines, and dam near same front ends. same hood lines too. Cant see how you dont see that resemblance. At any rate, I was not knocking the looks of any f body, or sunfire/cavalier, nor was I judging any cars either. Theyre not that bad looking at all. All i said was.... A. theyre all the same to me, and B. that the firebird looks like a longer sunfire, and a camaro looks like a longer cavalier. period.

Same designers making small changes to get another offering to the product line. We do it ourselves in our business, but for different reasons. Auto designers do it for sales. Making small changes the ease the cost of production can make a major difference when it comes to mass production. Similiar car for less $$ is attractive to some people.

I only see the resemblance in that a lot of Pontiac vehicles used hex or grid-patterns on the tailights (don't know why they did away with that...) and they tend to have two front nostrils of some kind - almost like BMW's... Wheelbase, width, overall profile shape, can't see the resemblance - the only thing I see similiar are some marque-specific styling cues.

Sort of like the old Escorts looking like baby Mustangs, right?

If your that confused by these cars , Maybe you barely beat a "Sunfire" in your street race.

lol.. maybe hehe. my girl drives a sunfire, so i know exactly what they look like.. and after im done with that car..itll be a little rocket too. Theyre quite zippy.. for a chicks car lol. Its a wonder though.... that I see all the smack talkers here... but when we were out cruising woodward the other night (a squadron of about 35 grand nationals) noone wanted to race.. Ive gotten a few to hook on gratiot.. but as of late, noone wants to go. Im just wondering if it was the large amount of lost races to grand nationals lately, that is making everyone back down... I'm starting to get bored now... and all the exotic car owner wont race. Ahh well, maybe this fall...who knows. as for any little neon owners.. ill be out on woodward tomorrow, and the next nite. come on out. well share some tips and tricks and what not.

I did not see anybody show up in the lot that wanted any part of what we had there. There were enough variations of GN's that we could have sized up just about any race out there with the right GN for the Job. Then we had backup of other types of vehicles if we needed to pull out any tricks.

They all look about the same in the rear view mirror to me.

lol i would imagine..

you have a 9 second tr??? were you one of the regals that pulled up later in the day, that sounded like there was no exhaust? I heard there was two locals in the club that was that fast. was that you?
