Hi All,

I got a real good deal on a 1986 GN that is in very good shape and it only cost me $1000 dollars, it does have 235,000 miles on it. But run's good, no smoke, no noises, it was well maintained.

But the Game plan is to take the recently rebuilt engine out of the oldsmbuick; it is a 1979 block complete rebuilt with all the good stuff, including ported heads (8445).

Now I'm going to have to provide an oil drain back on this block. I do plan on rebuilding the original engine in the GN, but that will be a few years down the road.

I currently running high 12's with the carbed turbo engine, so with The FI setup low 12's should not be an issue (I hope).

So question # 1
Should I drill a hole in the block for the turbo drain back, or since I work at Moroso should I have a custom pan made with a drain back into the pan. (The "79" is 14 bolt pan, But I do have a 20/14 HV front cover so the Hall effect crack trigger should not be a issue.

Question # 2
The digital tack is not working does anyone have a schematic so I can fix that.

Question # 3

With the stock turbo should the car run in the 12's with the ported head’s?

Question #4
When I install a 160 ° stat, I will have to change the EPROM?

My wild guess, mod a oil pan. That way you don't have ANY fear of getting anything in the crank case. IE, metal flakes.

As for the tach, I would call Caspers Electronics.

The stock turbo can take you deep into the 12's. I don't think that the 160 degree thermostat with the stock chip will be that much of a problem either. A friend of mine did tickle the 11's with a stock turbo on a very well tuned car. And I ran 12.50 with a stocker before I changed up!

So with the ported head eninge. and the stock turbo setup , high 11's is not out of the question?

I have seen the stock turbo, with blutops on a stock longblock run 11.9s,with 23# of boost. This was on a low mileage WELL prepared and tuned car. Yes high 11's on a stock turbo is very doable, but what I have found is running a bigger turbo your goals can be reached with lower boost.

I would like to use the center section out of the carbed turbo (t3/4 hybrid) stage IV compressor wheel & a stage III turbine.

But it has a carbon face seal on it. (Because of the draw though design), Plus I also offered to sell it, So...

Do these engine use a Valley pan gasket(intake) like the carbed turbos do?
