I went to the track 2 weeks ago and I go through tech, the guy looked the car over in about 1 minute. Everything is good, right?? No. He gave me some grief about my helmet. I bought it back in 2001 for snowmobiling in the winter. The rating is Snell 95. Now he tells me, I shouldnt let you run until you get a newer helmet with a better rating?? WTF!! Then he said ok, I'll let it pass this time anyway. But he said if I come back to race again and don't have the newer snell rating I couldnt race!!

I guess Im gonna have to spend some cash for a new helmet.

When did they change this?? At my local track I visit they never ask to look at your helmet or see if you need a cage, c-clip elim, etc, etc. The ironic thing is, I ran low 11's and they never asked or checked to see if I had a roll cage.

at my local track they always check the helmet. It has to be a Snell 2000. They also recently started making us wear fire jackets even though I'm only running in the low 12's. They claim if it has an aftermarket turbo on it, then you need the jacket. My brother runs low 11's with his GN but they don't give him grief over a roll cage. Go figure? I'm pretty sure anything under 11.5 you should have a cage.

According to the NHRA rulebook Snell 95 expired 1/1/2007 and is no longer good for any cars running 13.99 and quicker. If your looking for a new helmet I'd suggest one with an SA2005 cert scince it will be good till 1/1/2017.

That is not true when they will be good until. The end date is not predetermined. The Snell 90's were good until last year. As far as I can tell IHRA still allow Snell 95's. I am not sure when that is going to change. (I have a Snell 95 and race at a IHRA track.) I was hoping to get alittle more time out my snell 95, since the snell 90 were allowed for over 15 years.
